People ditch mass transit

Well tow trucks should be getting a bump in work with all these people playing mechanic!

Dayton has some pretty cool mass transit-

Trackless trolley busses.

I rode those (and gm "fishbowl diesels") to school in the middle of the city in grades 4-6 in 1977, 78 and 79.

IIRC only 6 cities in the US and 2 in Canada have trolleys.

Dayton used to build train cars & trolley buses. Its all in the past now. Nothing but slow moving rta buses.

Can you blame them? New York let the homeless over take the subway cars and use them as Porta Potty's. It's why RV sales have exploded as no one wants to stay in other people's rentals...

The ones I rode were 1930s-40's era Marmon-Harrigntons, and Flxible flyers, built in Canada.

I remember in 1977 just before they bought the 900 series Flyers, they had an open house at the car barn.

That was super fun for a 9 year old, seeing all the hoods open and various states of repair and disassembly.

They also had large scale models of the Flyer trolleys and several "these might be next" models.

They had to be 1/10 scale or even larger. Most had the roofs removed so you could see the interiors.

I believe Marmon 515 is restored at Carillon Park.

I definitely rode that one. I likely rode all the 500 series that were still in service in 77 and after.

It was the last in service and they paraded it around before retiring it.

I also remember when they bought the gm RTS II's in IIRC 1980.

Here's a Marmon and an RTS II. 501 is in a curious paint scheme as it's fresh and says "City railway" which I believe even preceded "City Transit" as the operating company prior to GDRTA/MVRTA.

They look to be approaching 3rd on Main.

Above the 501, you can see part of the Biltmore Hotel sign. My school was to the left on that street.

Yes, I could probably also be a "bus geek".

What did they build in Moraine?

S-10/S-15?

I own a couple of Commercial buildings, since I was in the Independent Auto Parts Business for many years, with three stores. In 2001 I sold my businesses to Carquest, which is now Advance Auto. I did not sell them the buildings at that time. I have been leasing those buildings to them for 20 years now. I'm very fortunate to have them profitable in these unusual times, and expect they will renew their leases with me soon....

A NYC subway car is a shithole in the best of times. I can't imagine it during this CoronaScam!!
