I’ve not seen this before. Going to disassemble and see if I can understand what happened.
Tried to start it and starter wouldn’t engage. I found the ring gear pushed back off the flywheel. I’m thinking the ring gear may have cracked.Wow, were you trying to start it, or was it running when it failed?
Yep, got the transmission ready to come out. Quite a chore with the console having to come out first. I’m also due to put in a new clutch while it’s apart.get out the wrenches take it apart.....
Can you get the ring gear back on straight? Why did it come off? They are pressed on in a fixture at the factory I would imagine. Do what you wish I would get a new flywheel.@toolmanmike why a new flywheel? If new ring gear fits tight but if it might spin on flywheel tack weld it on. Guy where I worked couldn't use his clutch so he turn engine off to stop. Hit the starter to get car going in gear and limped home. Ring would spin on flywheel. He asked what he could? Take it to maintenance and get Stewie to tack on,lasted 'til he junked truck.
Edit: If he can get a ring gear?
To remove the shifter. Prior to dropping the transmission. Even if you take the top of the console off it would be difficult to remove the hurst shifter. Why does the console have to come out?? Asking for a friend,,,
