I like the way tunnel rams look, I just want it to be nice and reliable, I want it to start up easily, what cam and what size of cam should I get it to make it run good and What’s some good carbs and would electric choke work with a vacume secondary work good with it and I’m not looking for power, I just like the way it sticks out, but some power might me nice

All depends on the rest of the combination, CR, head design, expected use and RPM you desire. Real mild could use the 450 Holley's or the basic 600's. Tuneability with secondary plates may be a pain.

Deff go for it ! Keep tweaking it for the "look" & performance characteristics you want. Probably won't damage anything & you'll learn some good to know carburation-intake-cam combo setup reality concepts.. You'll deff like the attention getting experience & fun memories !

Thanks! What cam should I use that is bigger but not big enough to have to mess with the compression ratio

call a cam company and ask them what would work for how you want to use it

Tell us what your motor combination has now. Motor year, stock parts? The tunnel ram can really complicate any existing problems with the combination. The intake, carbs, cam all have to work together with the type of driving you will do, RPM capability of the motor and your RPM expectations, trans, gear, tire size. Then a manufacturer can recommend a cam then the carbs. Again tuning can get very complicated.

Stock 440 I don’t have one yet but 1973 around there, I wouldn’t mind rebuilding it, and a 727 torque flight, let me know what parts I need, like what types of carbs or cams or a good tunnel ram for it

ok i think i know what you want is someone to tell you every part number and how to tune it well my last combo took me 1 year of research and waiting on parts to come in and machine shop 2 month to get it tuned right . you will have to do a lot of reading and hunting for the right parts to make a tunnel ram work and not flood the engine and hydro lock a cylinder witch will bend a rod. i have built a couple and the client messed with it and boom

Cam lift can cause retainer to hit top of valve guide/seal. Don't order a cam with more lift than you have clearance for. To make more clearance you'd need to pull heads and cut guides down.

Alright, I will contact my machine shop

Would it make it better if I got a steel crank?

No offense but you started with a vague, advanced question and then some follow ups seem less advanced. Some background on your experience will help people speak your language.

Saying you want a tunnel ram because you love the look, fine. Saying you want it to run reliable like a grocery getter, ok, more advanced. Asking how much cam you can stick in it after that makes less sense. Asking if you need a forged crank sounds like we're at square one of big blocks.

Possibly. I have 1 balanced for kB 237 pistons and ly rods. Kim

I haven’t built a motor, I’m trying to learn i only have book knowledge not much experience with building motors

I don’t know much compared to y’all, I never clarified that I was any smart at this, just sayin man

Najib, glad you are asking questions, only way to learn. Lot's of expertise and experience here. Post #13 is is on the money, so bear with us.
The Andy F book is a fabulous reference, wish I had bought this 6-7 years ago & I've been building drag race and HP street BB Mopar's since 1974. Another valuable resource is the Mopar "Bibles". They had numerous versions over the years. I have most. An early one like P4120792 along with a newer version P5249704 will help. Check Ebay, the disk versions should be available.
Jumping to a tunnel ram requires a lot of work and expertise that you don't seem to have. In many cases it's hard enough to make the mild street components work well together.
You don't need a steel crank.

you do not need a specialcam either
73 low compression 440?
headers?
run a stock cam if you want to, many have done it
what do you have now?
