Need to get my 69 Charger alternator rebuilt. Any suggestion or recommendations for a shop to use? I want my original alternator redone not a like for like exchange. Thanks

Why, what's it doing, or not doing? You have a FSM? Why not DIY it? Not many shops left doing that kind of work, have you checked the Yellow pages for a shop? Good Luck

I rebuilt a 69 alternator at the beginning of the summer. I'll check the date and pulley..

ABSOLUTELY REBUILD IT YOURSELF.
There is NOTHING mysterious about a Mopar alternator. As suggested, follow the FSM procedures for disassembling the unit and testing for any faults. The most difficult aspect is the drive sheave must be pilled off to replace the front bearing, which is # 6203-2RS. It is highly likely that the diodes are not faulty, but only the brushes are worn or the slip rings (what the brushes contact )are worn or dirty. Its also unlikely that the stator coils are bad. Most of the time, "rebuilding" is just cleaning, new bearings and brushes. For an approximate cost of $20. WHY PAY AND SHIP to some other person to do the same thing you can do? Self satisfaction for a job well done will give you confidence to tackle other more formidable jobs, like carburetor rebuilding or front end work. Again, the FSM is your definitive source for the correct method and specs to use. Just my opinion of course.

I've been a DYI'er all my life. I've built my own homes and cars. For 20 years I installed telephone switching systems for ATT/ Western Electric and for 20 years I worked for the DoD as an Electronic Industrial Controls Tech. So I don't think I'm lacking any skills or ability to rebuild the alternator but sometimes life has other plans. At 72 my eyes are not cooperating any more and that's just the way it is. All you young bucks out there, enjoy your youth. Don't waste a day of it.

It's not like you're working on a micro sized watch, what's there to really see?

I know what is is, no need for me to look it up! Didn't mean to piss in your fuckin Wheaties!

Just about every Mopar I’ve brought back to life I get the alternator and starter rebuilt. I have an auto electric shop right down the road and an old timer that still works. He rebuilds both for usually under $150 for the pair.
That doesn’t help you much in CA.
Google ‘auto electric near me’ and see what pops up. Start making some calls, they’ll either be interested in the work or blow you off.

I'm sure CARB has closed all those types of business's for some environmental bullshit reason or another, just move out of that forsaken state!!

I believe that CARB has outlawed FARTING as uncontrolled natural gas/carbon emission and the fine for emitting these pollutants MAY require a catalytic converter of some sort and at the very least, a TAX when the offending person is apprehended and tested for non-compliance. California, the land of taxes and what use to be opportunity.

Yep, they're also stuffin corks up cows ***'s as well to reduce emissions!:rofl::rofl:

My recommendation for a restored alternator is by far Jim Ridge at Dixie restorations. End of discussion he is the best and very honest, the fit and finish will be spot on. Yes any one can rebuild one and it maybe an excellent rebuild ( don’t blast the case or it’s ruined for life) but if want it restored not just rebuilt call Jim. He has one for me as we speak. No regrets either no China crap in it either.
