How do you identify a Forged crank from a Cast crank?
Yeah...more proof that you never know the weirdness that the factory put out. Engine had the cast crank stamp, but yes I believed it to be a forged as well. The pad was also stamped for a .010 undersized crank, which it is. All factory internals were still intact as concluded by the autopsy...Forged
That is a forged crank. If it had a cast crank damper on it and it was factory then someone balanced a forged crank to work with a cast crank damper. They typically didn't do that kind of stuff but maybe it is the end of the month and the boss was screaming about meeting quota or something so the guys in the shop built a Frankenstein motor out of the parts sitting around.Check this one out. It's the one I pulled out of a '78 RV 440, that had never been apart. "E" stamp on the pad, like it should....kinda looks like a mix of both haha. Lots of balance holes, yet had the typical cast crank balancer with the big weight on it. LY rods too, not 6-packers.
