Did somebody over here ever thought about (or actually did) renting out classic american cars?
This idea pops up in my head from time to time and i think it would be a fun way of making money and great justification for having multiple classic cars.

But one the other hand i just recently did some calculating (without knowing exact costs, especially insurance) with 5 cars and it looks like you would have to rent them out quite frequently to make a profit worth the effort and investment.
In my calculation about 1 day per week (4 per month) and car. (if you have 5 cars, 5 rental days per week)

Im not sure if my "round about calculation" is right and if it would be realistic being able to rent the cars out that frequently, though.
Maybe 10 cars would be better but at this point there's also a lot more investment necessary up front.

Anyway whats your thoughts on this.
Do you think it pays off?
Did you ever do it yourself? Did it worked out?

Of course it makes no sense (at least for me) if you would invest lots of money earning less and having more stress than just picking up a normal job.

I justify nothing. I wouldn't let anyone that has no investment in any of my cars even sit behind the wheel.

Just think about how well renters keep rental houses... No thanks.. Its not theirs they don't mind holding it to the floor and doing neutral drops..

Let me know when someone starts renting out classic muscle cars , sure would like to beat the hell outta some thing I don't have to fix.

Have you lost your mind? Seriously! You are crazy if you think that’s gonna work out. LOL. You think anybody Company will insure these classic car rentals for you?

Sure would be nice if people were trustworthy and respect others property. Maybe things are different in Germany?

This is a really bad idea.

I can't think of their name right now but, there is a business near Hollywood, CA that specializes in renting cars of all types to the movie production companies. I'm sure their not losing money doing it. They even build cars to suit the studies needs.

I go through a ritual everytime I get the car out with checking all fluids, manually fast idling until everything smooths out and gets some heat generated, all the while checking all gauges, listening for any unusual noises, etc., only then will I get the clear for takeoff. I seriously doubt someone renting a carbureted 50+ year old car would do that.

I don't think that film crews are any less harsh on the cars than a regular punter would be.

OP isn’t renting his personal cars out, it’s a business with inventory. No different than renting exotics in Vegas or Miami. People that can afford to rent stuff like this typically don’t know how to ‘drive’ them.

You would need to me in a major destination spot for this to draw interest IMO.

Already being done. 10 sec google search - https://turo.com/us/en/classic-rent...lfP12UiVRia8y44qCROBT8bjC_clRs2hoCBzEQAvD_BwE

I haven't thought about this for a while. I do know there was a company in Vegas that has been doing this for years.Located by the airport.I always thought that for a birthday present to myself that I would rent a Viper for the day. Never did though..
Muscle cars of all ages along with the normal exotics. There is a company out at the speedway that has mostly late models but some of the older stuff that you can rent and take it out on their road course and beat the crap out of them. You do have to have big bucks to do so. I believe it is around $1000 for 5 laps for the exotics.Maybe less for the Hellcats, Camaro and Mustangs.

There's a place in Miami Beach that rents exotic cars by the hour - when I see someone revving them to the redline or more I think it could be one of the rentals...

In the 80’s National Rental Cars had a fleet of classics at LAX. I was a frequent renter and was given ability to rent them. I had a Chrysler 300 letter car think it was a 63 and a 59 corvette. After the program ended they gave the cars away to customers via drawing. No way they made any money on that but it was heavily advertised.

Yeh.....I don't think it would be a great idea to rent out these classics. Look what renters do to homes. They would do the same to cars.

Living near Miami I've ran into these car rentals! Believe it or not these people don't beat on them !
So what I've gathered there super wealthy that do the rental s mostly when there's here on vacation since they don't have there own cars!
Most have to much to loose if they screw around . So they just drive them to show as a status symbol. Remember west palm and Miami a new Honda is poor people you need a Benz( not a cheap one ether) or hirer to play down there
$200000 + cars are normal sights there
