With Coke pulling their sponsorship, where does that leave NHRA. They have already drastically reduced prize money. John Force Racing is out (at least for this season). Are dark clouds building or can NHRA find a way out of this???

They’re in a tight spot for sure. I don’t think they will go away but I do expect some form of restructuring.

I know what the NHRA is. I really have no idea how it’s structured or financed but Drag racing and hot rods used to be something that could be shared with by the average guy. My impression is that it’s Now a rich mans game. Maybe it returns to an average man’s game.

ONCE they aloud electronics in the game it took the fun out of it for me. Some tracks combine both foot brake with electronics classes in order to get enough racers for a good pay out. And they seem to have went all NITRO.

I have whined about NHRA for years. One of their fundamental problems is that their funding and prize monies is too top heavy. NASCAR did a far better job. Have you noticed how small dirt tracks seem to pay much better prize money? Even with less crowd size? Because of better subsidizes and rules that encourages local participation. Now, I understand owning and operating a circle track is less expensive than a fully supported drag race track. But there is room for grass roots improvements. One improvement would be more TV coverage of Stocker and SS Stock class racing. The big Nitro categories are more exciting at the track. But a little boring on TV. I also understand it's easy for me or any of us to chirp from the cheapseats? But this is where ideas are formulated.

If they keep closing tracks like Englishtown and Atco in New Jersey where will they be able to hold the races.
Took a lot of revenue out of Englishtown when they shut the 1/4 mile track

Maybe people will just have to race for fun now

When did Atco close? I missed that one.

I have been to big event races at nice tracks. They are fun to go to for sure.

But I tell you, The small 1/8 mile local tracks were everyday guys and gals go to race are my favorite. Sponsored by local business.
Great way to spend a night with family and friends.
Same goes for the circle tracks , Small and dirt are my pick.

I remember going over to a friend's house in the late '60s in upstate NY and his dad had a slingshot nitro dragster in the garage. Weekend racer. Not many weekend racers have a top fuel dragster in their garage these days.

Let’s all not be fooled by this. Do we actually need an established, expensive to maintain drag race way? What happened before all of these raceways were open? Didn’t they used to find long straightaways outside of town to meet and see who had the fastest car? Could be the beginning of something simpler and better
