Gale Sayer's won't be Down!

He was my College Alma Mater, SIU/Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, IL Athletic Director as well. He and Sweetness are now the primer RB's on the Heaven's Football Team...RIP Gale...cr8crshr/Bill:praying::praying::praying::usflag::usflag::usflag:

RIP Mr Sayers, you were one helluva individual and ball player! 440'

He is the one that made me a fan of Bears football, I could watch hour of his games on tape as he was before my time.
He was Sweetness before Payton and a man's man. One of if not my all time favorite football players, definitely top 4 RBs even with such a short career...
Rip 40!

One of the greats! Because of him, I was a bears fan too, and of course Butkus too!
Rest In Peace!

The only knee he ever took was to pray!! RIP

What a player - back in the golden age of football. He never hot dogged it - ever. He just did his thing and didn't show off. There's a great episode of A Football Life that's about Sayers and Butkus. They were drafted back to back by the Bears in 1965 - numbers 3 and 4 overall. They were both cheated by never being on a team good enough to be in a playoff game, but what talent they both had. You don't have to be a Bears fan to have been a fan of those guys. Of the time he scored 6 TDs in one game as a rookie, he said: "I don't want to be known for scoring 6 TDs in one game. I want to be known as a winner in life." Classy man.

"Just give me 18 inches of daylight...that's all I need".
