Hello,
We purchased some Stealth heads and a new set of push rods (solid) and found out they rub on the casting. I was wondering if I can have the push rods machined to Ø5/16 in that area or should I take the heads off and open the holes?

Thanks for any help,
Moparmayhem

Curious as to what the crossed out zero's are for?

If you try to machine those pushrods your gonna discover they are tubular.....
Either buy some 5/16 pushrods or grind a little clearance into the heads...

There are not crossed out, they have a slash in them. That is the way the military writes a zero to distinguish it from an o

since you said they are stealth heads I'm going to assume you got them from 440 source. I would contact them they have a real good technical department

Just curious. 3/8" doesn't require a zero.

Unless you are using a solid roller cam with lots of valve spring, a quality 5/16 pushrods should solve your problem.
Or, take the heads off and grind them, and pay as much for the gasket set as you would have for the new pushrods.
Edit: your 3/8 pushrods don't have oil running thru them like a chevy, but they are NOT solid, and CAN'T be turned down, the wall thickness will be much too thin, if there is any at all.

Ok, I will look for some 5/16 push rods

Thanks all,

Hi mayhem,....if hefty spring on nose # or solid lifter I try to run the big rods less dynamic flex & more lift...Any possible way to clearance the heads Without pulling it off ?

The Race 7/16" work real good...

Even the 5/16" pushrods will rub. I had to relieve my Stealth heads which were running a .550 lift solid flat tappet cam.

I would use the 5/16 and shim the rocker arm a little if you need a little more.

A little more about your engine and your intentions would help. As mentioned before, a call to the manufacturer will help. You might be able to get away with 5/16, .125 wall pushrods. Manton or Smith Bros. are excellent sources. Personally, I'd clearance the heads and run 3/8's.

Yeah I have to take the heads off, just don't want to chance it, valley is open. I'm going to borrow some end mills from work and open the top portion of the intake position openings. Was going to use deburring tool but too fine of material floating around.

Thanks again,
