Killing a Black bear with a .22 rifle?

Ed, that story made me flash back to "Harlem nights" where two guys with Thompson's are shooting up Quick, and the third guy is popping off single shots with a little revolver.
"Don't shoot that little m-fer no more!!!"

There’s no replacement for accuracy when killing any animal. Shoot an Elk in the *** with a 300 win mag and see if you ever find it.

When it comes to shooting and fishing stories, don't believe anything you read or hear and only 1/2 of what you see. Yes, a .22 rimfire can be deadly. However, beyond small game, it's not something you should count on. A .22 centerfire cartridge (.222, 223/5.56, 22-250, .22PPC, 220 swift, .223 WSSM) is a different story. In an emergency, you use what you have and you can get lucky, but there is a better chance they'll have to check the bear's droppings for your DNA.

Probably a .222

Between head shots and shoulder shots aren’t high quality shots. As a Maine guide that does black bear hunts, it’s really all about shot placement.

That said, I would never go .22 or .22 mag for a bear! I’ve seen em hit with a shotgun slug in front shoulder and walk / run off! Never found!

Black bear are tough!

This year, had a client shoot one with 30’ 06 and 200 plus yards later we located it, still goin.. one final shot done! Then the fun drag began!

all said a .22 at in the right spot will work but I’ll take the larger caliber all day long.

all I’ll ask is, do you want to track a wounded bear at nite? How about that in the really thick underbrush and can’t see 2 feet in front of you!

if anyone wants to do a black bear hunt next year, I’ll give you a Fbbo deal!!!!

IIRC in Maryland where I grew up and hunted all my life, a 22 LR wasn't legal to hunt with but a .22.250 was. (Deer Hunting)

Is that honey in that hummingbird feeder Boo Boo
Sugar water that was the first one. He went to a second one and pushed flower on to the deck to get to the second one. Note tipped over planters.

Here’s a beautiful bear we got on one of our baits. We never had a client see it!
Love the muzzle! The lines are great! Just awesome!

a .22 ca. directed in the right place 'could kill it'
not my caliber of choice for a bear

It wouldn't be the best thing to hunt or protect yourself with
or legal thing to hunt with for that matter for hunting
but if it's all you got, do what you gotta do

bears come in all sizes,
a small bear is more likely the culprit in this case

like someone else said
".22's are responsible for more deaths than any caliber"

I don't think I could place a shot well enough with a 22LR to even kill my little buddy waiting for his hamburger..

Called DEEP state wildlife agency 017 tag they weighed at 175 lbs.. Think he was pushed out, bear we have now isn't tagged.
Connecticut doesn't have a hunting season on bears. The state is about 100 miles x 80 miles and has 800+ bears. The area where I live is known as bear highway. Group of small towns that bears move threw north to south.

I watched videos of people killing wild boar with .22 caliber air rifles. I believe take the proper too; for the job. If all you got is a .22 you need some luck, the noise a .22 rifle makes is hardly enough to scare a bear. If I think a bear is messing with my dog, Im taking a centerfire try to scare with big noise. Shooting the dear as a last resort.

Head shot would do it!
Shot placement is the key!

Robert Kennedy was killed with a 22 pistol. John Henkley shot Ronald Regan with a 22. So, 22s can do some damage. Especially if it is a 22 mag. To put it another way, I don't want anyone shooting at me with a 22 or anything else for that matter. B.

I'd rather be missed by a .45acp then to get tagged with a .22!

So I got BooBoo back today, two year wait but he did excellent. We also dropped off a male Bufflehead I literally think I scared to death, no blood and just a skinned leg, I grabbed him live and he died in hand. His 3 buddies was my only 3/3 of the season but I won't count "Lucky". My daughter said he was too pretty to eat.
Anyway heres BooBoo, my first.
Hope I can get out with XP at some point, if I'm ever done remodeling, see 2x4 stair railing and a door you'd fall in the basement if you walked through lol.
