Using pressure washer wanted to do a small piece I had in my hand. Couldn't control the kick when I blasted the part. Took 3/4" piece of skin between thumb and fore finger so it oozed blood. Want to torture somebody that's a tool.
Wire wheels can ruin your day as well! Nothing like pulling a wire the rest of the way through INTO your mouth to remove them.
No, but that is some what worse! A little closer to the ear wouldn't need a hospital bed. You or a friend?Might be referring to this photo?

Nobody I know; just from my collection of photo's I used for safety training when the gist was given to me to deliver a 'strong' message...that poor guy looks like he was in a world of hurt and likely have a scar to tell his grandkids about. No, but that is some what worse! You're right, that guard is the first thing I always take off. Thanks for sharing! The up side, if there is one, if you leave your wife, the scar won't keep you from getting another women. As kern wouldn't say......... Know what I mean!!Saturday evening, I was working on the flatbed and I needed to do a little cutting. I was using my 4 1/2” dewalt angle grinder and cut off wheel. The guard was off, having no time to waste, I used it anyway. On my second weld the grinder kicked and since I was holding the cord in my left hand, it Swung into my right forearm. Of course I had the trigger locked. After it struck my arm, it hit the ground ruining the wheel. I bent down to shut it off and realized it had got my arm pretty good. When I went in the kitchen to wash it out, my wife, my grandmother, and my mom all had a fit. I ended up going to the small local hospital and ended up with them cutting off some charred skin and getting 8 stitches. Spent 2 hours in ER, when I could’ve spent 3 minutes putting on the guard and probably avoided the incident.
Moral of the story is, use guards when your equipment calls for them .

Agreed. Haven’t used one in 30 years. I don’t like the locking triggers. I use the paddles. If your hand comes off, the grinder shuts off.My guards are all off and staying off, they get in the way way to often. Looks like that smarted a bit!
Geez!!I was working part time at a woodworking plant on maintenance and witnessed a young guy cut his finger off on a band saw. We wrapped his hand in a cloth, picked his finger up out of a pile of sawdust and rushed him to the ER. They sewed it back on.
A couple of weeks later he sawed it off again at the same band saw! Rinse, lather, repeat. Some people get it, some don't.
Yeah - bandsaws! One time doing some grocery store inspection with the store manager, one of the employees from the meat dept came running up saying a worker cut part of his thumb off cutting sausage. The blade guide was all the way up so handling the greasy meat his hand slipped over the top into the blade. That's why the guide should be set an 8th to 1/4 inch above the stuff being cut so ya hit that instead of da blade. As well, can't tell ya how many deli employees lost tips of their fingers on those meat slicing machines.I was working part time at a woodworking plant on maintenance and witnessed a young guy cut his finger off on a band saw. Same here and am always thinking about not being in the 'line of fire' so to speak. Also never hold the cord or air line as I've seen that very same thing happen before that the OP posted about. As for not using the guard....done more damage to wheels with one than without. And like mentioned, some get it, some don't and then there are the ones that I don't want working anywhere near me!Agreed. Haven’t used one in 30 years. I don’t like the locking triggers. My Dad always called those “the ones that shouldn’t own tools” lolBand saws are one of the worse imo. I'm always leery of using them and have always been very particular with safely using them. My first encounter with one was in jr high wood shop and our safety lesson for that one machine was probably double of all the others. We also had a very good safety program at work and was pretty surprised that no one in the machine shop was missing any digits!
