Guys, noticed the fluid was low on my 72 so topped it off. Next morning big leak all over the floor. You can see fluid just leaking out the top shaft seal and dripping. Wipe it off and in a minute or so , leaking again. ALL with the engine off. Can one replace that seal easy with out doing a total kit install. Does the unit need to come out completely to replace that seal only. thanks.....

I just changed a high pressure hose on the 71 Satellite I'm working on it was spraying out of the crimped connector onto the top of the box making me think it was the box itself. Finally was able to see it squirting all over the place from that spot. Bought a new high pressure hose and had to modify the end of the hose as it was the wrong fitting type. Cut it off and re-flared it and now no leaks.

Agggg, you were lucky...wish mine could be fixed that easy. Guess I will pull the unit and see if I can do a top shaft seal replacement instead of a complete gearbox replacement .....

I did it many moons ago

There is a few seals in there if I remember

It’s not difficult

However MARK THE CONTROL VALVE where it sits on the top of box

When you loosen those two bolts that control valve slides back and forth and that’s your center adjustment for your steering

You adjust it with your front wheels off the ground

Anyways study and do your research on that adjustment first on the Control Valve Assembly before you remove it

If you put it together in the wrong orientation, under pressure it will rip your arms off when the steering wheel takes off in the wrong direction

Peace

I thought I saw a way to do the seal why it's in the car guy used the oil to push the seal out !
As stated above if not 100% correct damn thing will snap your arm! I had that once in my younger days put a new box in got it all together fired up dang wheel started going crazy . I laughed told car we were ment for each other we both got demons!
