I have a 64 Dodge and I would like to put the widest tire on that I could. I picked up a couple of 15 x 8 x 4 1/2 BS rims. I don't care to change anything in the way that you would mini tub or etc. but just the widest tire I can get in there. According to the way a tape measure looks under there I might be able to put a 10" TREAD width. Also to thicken the plot I would like this tire to be at least a 29" to 30" tire in height. any and all ideas would be welcomed. Pics of rear tires from the back of car would be good. Thank you, Preachr.

A 275/60 would probably be the largest tire on a 8" rim.

Back in the day, I had H 50's on 10" rims, on my '64 Polara500. No rub. I'm not sure what the back space was or what the equivalent size would be for the newer tire sizes.

Edit; Looks like the "H" tire size is a 275 today.

According to Tire Size.com a BFG 275/60/15 is 28'' tall, wide 11''(that is to the sidewall to sidewall, tread is 9.5'') Rim range is 7.5 to 8.5. I have them on my 65 Belvedere. Only photo I have, they don't rub..You may be able to get(if they make them) 295/60/15 that should get you 30'' tall and 10'' to 11'' of tread. I'm sure they would rub the outside of the wheel house. But maybe not.

Might want to check out the Mickey Thompson Sportsman S/R. The 28x12xr15 would get you a good 10.5 inches of rubber on the ground and still be 28 inches tall. The nice thing is they have the height of a P275/60r15 but the width of a P295/50r15, its the best of both. If 28 inches isn't tall enough, they have a 30x12xr15.

285/70x15's are 30 plus tall , and fit the 8'' rims nicely . my 63 is altered for 10's with 325/60 x 15's about the same height .

That sounds like a great size for the rear tire. I have 29x12.50x15 M/T now and they sometimes rub the fender lip. These may give me just enough room, but I’m not sure about the front tires. 27 inch only comes in 8 inch width, tops. Seems a bit skinny for my taste. Would a 28x10 be too wide and or tall?

I like the wide rear tires, but it may be a lot easier to just go with the somewhat standard 275/60 with 225/70 on front. Certainly cheaper too

Let me take this opportunity to finish the line

...and everything!

295/50 15 on an 8” rim. Like the cartoon look.

I tried to upload a couple of more pics from the back and down under from the back, but, when you have under 2 on the receiving end of the internet signal,
it just doesn't want to go all the time, grrrr. love the color of your car,, and the looks as well. I'll try to upload a pic but if it doesn't show up you will understand why.
thanks.

I think Mancini sells a off -set rear shackle and front hanger that would get you another .8" of clearance. No cutting involved ,moves your springs inward but may be cost prohibitive . I don't know how well they work as i have never used them.

Wheel width is 8". Back space is 5 1/4.
Tire height is 28" x 11.9 section width x 10.59 tread width.
all fits in a stock 64 b body quite nicely. Not sure about a 65 Coronet..
Hope this helps.
