Finally took the leap. Been a Chevy truck guy for 21 years and loved every one. Except the last. It was an 18 High Country, 6.2 8 speed auto. A few months after I got a letter about a TSB for torque convertor chatter that could get pretty irritating. Mine was good so at 1500 miles I slapped a LT4 blower on it and rode the next 20k miles problem free. At around 22k the convertor started chattering pretty violently when towing. At 24k (two weeks ago) I took it to Chevy to get the TSB done on it.

Flat denied my warranty due to my GM blower. After 42 new GM products and never having a problem, I did something else.
I give you the 2021 eTorque Hemi Rebel 4x4

To be fair if you put a non stock blower on that they will almost certainly deny you warranty too!....Nice looking truck though!

Glad you made the switch, I left GM in 82 because of a statement made by a dealer service department. On the 4th trip in for transmission issues I said you need to replace that transmission. Their reply was "as long as there is one good part in that transmission we will rebuild it ". I haven't bought GM anything since.

At least the converter went before the cam due to the active fuel management.
And, yes, GM was correct in denying the claim due to the huffer.

The T.Q. sounds like a recall! Witch should of been fixed no matter what

Take the blower off and go to another dealer. Hope they didn't stick a notation about the blower in a dealer wide computer system.

I'm betting they did....but I think he traded it in on the Didge

Legally they are supposed to cover the failure but many dealerships mistakenly choose not to.....

And I know of a few dealers who are to short sighted to realized providing proper warranty coverage to a long term customer is part of keeping that customer....

If the trans were completely smoked they might have grounds to deny the claim but a known concern of a shuttering torque convertor is plain wrong...

It's not like the dealer is doing the work for free, they get paid... First place I would have gone is the dealership sales manager.... Trust me, he doesn't want the service dept pissing off a long term customer...

If for some reason he didn't get you taken care of (I doubt that would be the case) I'd be calling the district/zone rep... Just because service departments don't like to "give away" work doesn't mean they are the final word... Car companies don't like to lose customers...

There is strong legal precedent for handling the warranty claim...

The saving grace for consumers is the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act of 1975. The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act states that a dealer must prove that aftermarket equipment caused the need for repairs before it can deny warranty coverage.

If the warranty states items that increase horsepower such as supercharger, etc, violate the warranty the factory is in the clear.

My argument is simple. TSB 18-NA-355 matches my problems perfectly. I own a shop. I get at least one in my shop a month. Under the 60k powertrain? Take it to the dealer.
So, regardless of my blower, the shuddering and high trans temp fit the TSB perfectly.

GM fucked upon this one. After 42 new GM in 31 years, wife gets a loaded out Hemi Grand Cherokee AWD on Saturday. She loves her Blazer RS, but it is what it is. Daughter loses her 16 Malibu as well. She likes the Cherokee Latitude.

And just so everyone gets the issue, the transmission worked exceptionally well on acceleration and wide open. Cruising at 50mph was a nightmare. The convertor would shutter so bad that the shifter would loudly bounce on its mount on the column. it felt like driving on a washboard road. Towing? Pick a gear, any gear. It did whatever it wanted to do. Downshift for no reason from 6th to 4th? again, it acted like a spoiled little whore. It did what it wanted.

Nice truck!! I recently bought a Laramie, absolutely love it.

Again, if the warranty states the addition of things like superchargers violate the warranty they were in the clear.
A TSB is not a recall. It is a bulletin saying to do X IF Y occurs.
That doesn't mean all or many will do it.

I get that. I never asked them to warranty anything. I wanted the TSB done. I budgeted $500 for it. The dealer called me and said the blower voids the warranty. And I mean THE warranty. No longer covered would be stuff I value. Power windows, AC, all the power stuff. Come get it. Yet only after changing the oil and rotating the tires. You get two when you buy a new Silverado. I had one coming.

As a tech and shop owner, I use TSBs all the time on repairs. I and I charge for them.

That's too bad. The 1st car I bought brand new was a 2018' Camaro SS and I got the chatter at 12k miles. They flushed the trans no problem and its been great ever since. Those 8l90e's are super beefy, just need a good converter installed and that issue is long gone.

After my warranty is up, it'll be LT4 blower time.

Good luck on the Mopar truck!

Did you read my post above? The law clearly states they can not exempt themselves from a warranty unless they can prove the supercharger caused the failure.. A known problem with a TSB issued is gonna be damn hard to try to connect to the supercharger....

I worked both as a dealer tech & as a OE troubleshooter, BTDT... If he'd pushed the issue to at least the sales manager he would have gotten it fixed....

But they are saying the added power made the converter go bad. Therefore the TSB wouldn't apply.
They would fix it if you paid for it. If you didn't have the blower they would have fixed it under warranty. In your OP you said you wanted it fixed under warranty.

As for taking it to the sales manager, the service department will tell the sales manager to pound sand and keep his nose out of the service dept.
Back in 77 I did just that. Talked to my salesman and the manager. They found themselves on the street.
The dealer couldn't get my car in as they were backed up for weeks. Cough...cough. When the warranty ran out (12 k mi) suddenly they could get it in...until I pulled out my extended warranty card from ferd.
Took the car to another dealer. They found bad main and rod bearings and bad lifters.
They rebuilt it and I only paid for oil and filter.

I was a dealer tech for many years. When my dealer would refuse warranty, I would tell customer to get refusal in writing. All of a sudden the dealer would black pedal and warranty would be approved .

We use the GMC trucks up here, and they all have there own problems with mechanical issues, the 2018 2500 hd diesel with the 8 spd had the same issue at 58000 km n gm fixed it but we arent adding turbos, the 2020 2500 hd just went in to replace front rotors at 12000 km,2017 1500 kodiak with 67000 km just had starter n vacuum pump n belt replaced all under warenty n the 2018 dodge v6 diesel we got ride of because at less than 10000km blew the bottom end out n took 6 mnths to fix as this was a big problem back than n they couldnt make good blocks fast enough, the only truck that stand up and are a good work horse is the toyoto tundra but you get no deals on them the price is what it is
