Edelbrock 800 AVS-2

650 AVS2 on a 470 Stroker - Why did the engine builder recommend ?

Can you give us the details on the engine build please

Edelbrock told Houle the same thing for his 440 when I told him to pick up the 800 AVS2

Ask him how much he likes his 800 AVS2 now that it replaced the 650 that Edelbrock ran circles with him

Edelbrock ran circles with him tuning the 800 AVS2 also

Cubic inches and HP want more CFM

I agree a 650 on a 472 stroker just doesn't make sense. The 650 AVS-2 worked very well on my very mild built 440 except at WOT. I thought that on the bottom end it had fantastic throttle response, where it struggled was at WOT. The 800 after some minor changes works great, not much difference on the bottom end but a whole lot better on the top end. With that 650 you just might not have enough fuel to support that 472

I got a 650 for my stock 318. I have a 600 AFB on my 273 and it works well. Get's 20 mph highway.

This was years ago so I forgot why he said go with a 650. I originally had a quickfuel 650 carb on there. It ran good for awhile then it kept running rich. My engine is a 400/470 with solid lifters, edelbrock rpm intake, trickflow heads, and long tube headers. I'm thinking I need to step up to the 800cfm carb

I agree. Bottom end is great but WOT on the top end is garbage. I just installed the carb a few days ago. Was finally able to drive it yesterday and was disappointed.

A big cube stroker needs at least a 800

OMG a 650 will never do, sell the 650 AVS-2 and buy the 800 AVS-2 you will be much happier. I had to change the orange springs to pink as my manifold Vacuum was 14 and I changed the stock 65/52 rods to a 68/47 and she runs perfect. You might not have to change anything until you put it on and run it.

A 650 on a 470 CID engine?
That’s nutz!

Back in the 60’s Chrysler used a 600 AFB on there 440 for use in there land yacht (SP?), like an Imperial that is 4K + lbs. w/Hwy gears (2.76’s) and that made sense since power fell off after the late 4K rpm area. The stock cam was small, single exhaust, etc....

I guess there will be a 650 avs2 for sale here soon haha

I had one on a 360. Swapped it out for a 750, a most most noticeable change and gain. Excellent carb, just to small.
