I'm preparing myself for the sticker shock.
I'm going to need new exhaust for the '70 Charger I'm screwing together. I have headers but need everything back from there. I figure 2 1/2" pipes, an X pipe center section, decent mufflers and tailpipes. Nothing exotic.
I've seen kits online under $800. Can that be right? It has been awhile since I had a full system done.

I can probably piece something together. This would be a good place to start:

My buddy used TTI on two of his E bodies and I thought he said they were around 650.00 ea. Said the fit was good.
I have a real good exhaust guy do mine and my customers. Prices depends on what size, what mufflers and the difficulty. Usually 450.00 to 700.00

Pretty sure that you can weld Greg so you'll probably do good with one of those kits from Summit or Jeggs and maybe just have a shop make the tail pipes for you.

This was probably our most difficult one. 70 Cuda, tubbed with inboard springs and 3" pipes going over a Dana 60, X pipe and electric cutouts. Had to modify the tips. Think this one was over a grand but this wasn't a normal setup.

Stainless with polished mufflers? Whoa...have you seen the car I'm working on?

That's a bit fancy for me!

If you want to save money I would just buy the pipe from a steel supplier, (maybe they can bend it too) go with a H Pipe instead of an X Pipe as you can make the H yourself very easily, and then get some no-name straight through mufflers. Buy some decent tips as that what people see. You're pretty handy so I'm sure you could handle it easily. Or get an existing system from the wreckers and modify it. An exhaust is one of the simplest parts of the car. No moving parts, nothing to stuff up.

Kern dog I went with magnaflow kit for my 72 charger, it was nice, the only thing I did was use my factory hangers which required some modifications. Be careful when buying exhaust pipes from China, they won’t last ! I went with their stainless kit from Summit, I shopped everywhere and prices are close so that told me manufacturer is setting the price. Their hangers are kinda lacking but if your not using factory hangers and don’t mind them then your ok. The sound quality is nice the pipes are formed nicely the mufflers are well made too. IMO

I'm very happy with the 2-1/2" kit from TTI that I put in my 64 Fury. This was from later HP factory manifolds back to the turn down tailpipe ends. Fit and quality were good. It has been several years, but I think it was about $650 to 675 or so if I recall correctly. Easy to do laying in the garage, only have to trim the center pipes for length due to the slight differences in B Body wheelbases. NO welding!

Been using TTI products for 20 years now.
May cost a little more but great quality and service from them.

I used the summit kit with my charger. With mufflers and header flanges, I think I was into for $160. I haven't put pipes over the axle yet, if ever

I bought a complete kit from exhaust manifolds back on my 383 Challenger. This was last year from TTI complete kit with shipping $771 that's with h pipe. I don't care for the x. Should be a little less with headers.

Here is a 3 inch kit. It says roadrunner but shouldn't be much different than a charger. Add in an Xpipe kit and you are in it for less than 400.00 for a 3 inch exhaust.
$266.99 for the exhaust kit and 113.00 for the X pipe kit in 3 inch.

Or this Pypes Kit. 2.5 inch with xpipe already in it.

TTI on my challenger with factory manifolds. about $750 without tips. 2 1/2 in . I moded my OE tips to fit as the tips they sell were $500 bucks......It is a very nice system and there is muffler choice when you buy.

i just bought the jegs kit not an x pipe but all pipes fit nice the only problem is 1 pipe was wrong . i will have a friend of mine make the 1 pipe i will need but for 238.00 it is worth it .
the kit i should have bought was 555-50572 i got 555-50502 look at the pipes in picture there is a difference in the pic

The last exhaust I did on a buddy's car was the cheapo 2-/12" Summit header back kit. It was fine. Like BeepBeepRR, I have also bashed the Summit 3" header-back kit with the Summit X-pipe generic and it worked well too. When you do it yourself you can spend the effort to fit the kit up a lot tighter and cleaner than most any exhaust shops ever will. You also avoid the neat little exhaust shop tricks like running sheet metal screws up through your floor, welding hangers onto your seat belt bolts, and all the other unpleasant things they do when rushing the job.
