just took maiden voyage ran good. on cruise with club thru town almost at idle and traffic lights 210. 180 on road at 50. its a 63 sp. fury i just finished up. re core 3 tube origional 22 in rad. with oem 63 style shroud put the orig 4 blade fan on to try out, milidon hi flo w.p. one inch spacer pits fan 1 in. from core. advice on metal fan 7blade pref. also comes to temp quicker than other b.b. mopars ive had 160 milidon thermo i would send some pics but need grand daughters assistance ha ha just an old fart having some fun

The fan may be too far into the shroud.
Yes the 4 blade fan is marginal.
But a new rebuild will run hotter for a while.
I prefer a 180 degree thermostat.

is your fan 1/3 out of shroud? What was the temp when you were driving?

How much initial timing do you have?

My concerns would be the fan blade, depth of blade in shroud, number of blades and then here is one that ruffles feathers: water pump, high flow moving water too fast thru radiator. A/C cars have less blades on the pump then non a/c cars. I believe they slow it down to allow more saturation in the radiator.. thus cooling off the fluid a little better... make sure timing is spot on and air fuel mix is good too... good luck and keep us posted..

That was the fan that I used for the Max Wedge in my '64 Belvedere. It cooled OK without a shroud, but I always use a 160 degree thermostat in my big block cars.

fan i/2 to 2/3 in shroud oem shroud not very deep at least 1/3 out of shroud temp 180 onhi way at 50 cant recall exact timing nos, but adjusted as close to specs to get it running good fan blade origional wanted to try and keep it stock but that mite not be COOL.looking for recommend on 6 or 7 blade 18 that i can replace orig with

Original timing specs might only be a few degrees of initial advance. Get a timing light on there and check what you have at idle up through about 2500 rpm. Shoot for about 34-36 all in. An FBO limiter plate will allow more initial without too much total.

You should be able to cool it with what you have. I have a similar set up and no problem with cooling. I do run an AC waterpump, and I did change out 4 blade for a 7 blade fan as a "just because " kind of thing. So if you are looking for a 7 blade fan, you can go after market derale or 4 seasons fan. They look oem and will definitely pull more air. Make sure your timing is advanced enough, and carbs are synced so both banks are somewhat close in fuel mixture. Another thing, are your fan and water pump pulleys matched so they spin at proper ratio for water pump.

will recheck timing used mancini spec sheet for their h.p. ele. ign. dist&box.will recheck advancetomorrow to make sure its ok.it runs damn good thanks for the fan info. not sure about syncing the carbs. did adjustments by feel. fan and pump pully mancini resto pieces

Good deal on matched pulleys.
To sync them you need a sync tool, it measures the vacuum of incoming air. I'm probably wrong on unit of measure.
disconnect carb linkage let it warm up.
you adjust the main idle screw to give highest value. repeat on other carb. You do this a couple of times and put linkage on carbs. Throttle response is increased.
That is Reader Digest version

Here's a great fan and a reasonable price: https://www.summitracing.com/parts/aaf-all30100
As was said, a fresh engine will generally run a little hotter until broken in. I run a 180 Stant thermostat and a Mopar plastic shroud. And, again, more timing should help. If you search here for Unisyn, you should see my article on making a device to allow you to sync the idle speed of your carburetors. Easy to make and pretty cheap. Makes a difference!

I just put one of the ALLSTAR 6 blade fans on my '56 BelAir, however mine was 17". That's the fan from Summit shown above. I like its appearance better than a flex fan.

I really like this Derale fan. Looks almost stock and really moves some air. No cooling problems at all. It's a six blade, has the correct 5/8" center hole. Great quality!

You can see how much I have out of the shroud.

Stock 8 blade water pump.

A bottle of Be Cool or Kool It can help with cooling during break in. I changed out the distilled water and Kool It before the first winter when I had to have antifreeze in the system. I'm still using the distilled water with the antifreeze.

Depending on your climate, only use just enough antifreeze for the low temps during the winter. The more water in the system the better for cooling.

Here's the Derale fan I'm using.

Hey @MoparLeo what's with the unexplained red X?
Screenshot_20201019-164741_Chrome.jpg

If the issue is the appearance of that fan, I can't argue with that as that is purely subjective. As far as functionality goes, it does a damn good job of moving air, yet the blades straighten as the RPMs increase, cutting down on drag and leeching horsepower, WITHOUT the added depth of a clutch.
Now I chose that fan for my wife's GTO because it needs a mechanical fan, I already chewed a hole in the new aluminum Cold Case radiator because I didn't know clutch fans needed more than 1/2" gap to the radiator. EXPENSIVE lesson. That fan actually looks very nice on her 421 Tripower because of the polished billet aluminum pulleys and chrome valve covers.

Not to intrude but flex fans have a reputation of cracking and the the blade flies off putting a nice hole in your hood, radiator and hoses.

Once sgain, I'm conducting classes in the fundamentals of Thermodynamics to disprove the comments regarding flow rates and velocities. BTW....re the B/RB block A/C cars having different water pump impellers....yes they do but are turning at significantly higher RPMs due to the water pump to crankshaft sheave ratio, moving the coolant faster (velocity) and at higher flow rates (gallons/minute). In addition, just ask the Evans Coolant boys which coolant is best....

advanced timing to 36. ordering 6 blade. will go to a.c. w. pump if needed hope not, miss spoke on pulleys crank and w.p. resto from mancini. appreciate the advice. let u know how its going
