Howdy,

So this is more of a curiousity post than anything else.

The past few times I drove my car, it would die when warming up. Start back up again no problems. But this time she died and wouldn't start. Lost spark. Tested the coil and the readings are all over the map, from .7 to 45 ohms. And absolutely inconsistent. I did find that my negative battery cable was a bit loose and thought that was it so i charged the battery as well.

So here's the question; could the negative cable being loose have fried the coil? Or could my msd 6al2 just be too much for an accel coil to handle? Or are accel coils just that bad? (My second accel coil. My first died before the msd box and i blamed it on age.)

Thanks.

Update after 5 minutes.

I just went out to test it again and now it reads 0 on both tests.

A lot of people like to test coils when they are cold

Always best to test them hot if having issues

What Accel Coil are you running ? Or where you running

It was just an accel super stock. Model 8140.

Unless it randomly starts up, can't really test it hot.

Accel 8140 is a 1.4 OHM Primary Resistance Coil designed for inductive ignition systems , points etc. electronic ignition running a ballast resistor

Buy/Run a CDI Type Ignition Coil designed around your MSD CDI 6 Box

Tons of options

So YES you killed your coils

Makes sense. I just used the coil I had before with the standard electronic ignition.

Thanks Bee.

Msd manual says it should run with any stock style coil. Now I'm just juggling between the 8207 or the more expensive 8253. I'll figure it out eventually.
