Hello BBs
Has anyone ever not chromed the front and rear bumpers and done anything a bit different ?
Cheers guys !!

I’ve seen some painted body color that looked good if you aren’t trying to look original.

I thought you were going to tell us how much it costs to chrome a B body bumper.

For the current project, I am just going to paint them silver. I can always get them chromed later if I want to dump more money into the project.

a few years ago I did black chrome (pho-chrome)
translucent black & clear over chrome paint
I also did the trim around the windows too
(I left the grill, headlight surrounds, tail-lites trim/tail trim panel alone)
mainly was doing the fiberglass bumpers on a 68 RR drag car
looked good against the A4 silver, the argent in the grill
& a semi-gloss 6bbl lift-off hood

different strokes for different folks

sorry no photos currently

I was quoted nearly £500 each to repair (bit of rust inside and out plus a few light dents) my two bumpers and triple show chrome them....hence the reason they are being painted body colour! Chroming has certainly gone up a bit since I was getting bike exhausts done for forty quid a pop back on the 80s!

I just sent two off to Tri-city, 71 Charger. $500 each.

Brushed nickel looks good !!

I had my 70 front and rear bumpers done about 1year ago and the total Cost was $800. Tri City Plating Elizabethton TN.

I just had two bumpers chromed by a place in Houston, Texas. Superior Chrome and Polishing.
Super great group of guys. Quick turn around. Top notch show chrome quality.
$650 per bumper.

Stockton Bumper is good too (or used to be)

I had a couple of things done by them over the many years
they were great quality
pretty reasonable price too, compared to the above prices

it's cheaper to buy a new aftermarket bumper/s
(I know the same quality isn't there "usually")
really crazy, but labor is more expensive
than to produce/stamp the parts & chrome them

I currently have a body colored bumper on my runner, and two painted body color on my 62. When the time comes, the 62 is gonna get glass bumpers, and the runner is gonna get amd.
Chrome in california is insanely priced, and hard to get. California's regulations have driven the great majority of shops out of business, the rest think their chrome is really gold.

Do you seriously expect aftermarket bumpers to be flawless show chrome ?!?! They're "reproduction" - meaning they will resemble original factory bumpers. How many original bumpers do you think got a flawless show chrome finish ??

I just sent 2 bumpers to Sacremento sherms chrome in Sacramento i frenched the bumpers deleted the bumper bolts had studs added show chrome with 2 tail lite trim 4500 and straighten out all dings

I DONT expect show chrome on a repop bumper. I DO expect it to be nearly as good as original, and a lot better than what i have now.
If i buy the AMD, i will still have my originals that i can have redone later, if i want to spend a couple grand.

So were you around when new late 60's and early 70's were in the showrooms? I was. The AMD's are as good as, if not better.
