My power steering box seals have started to leak and I was wondering if anyone has tried the Lucas Oil Power steering stop leak. If anyone has tried it does it really work ? They claim immediate results . I noticed on the bottle it says rack and pinion but obviously my 53 year old car does not have so I'm just wondering if anyone has tried it. Really hate to get under it and pull it but it is what it is.

I tried some , stopped leak on the pump ..... kind of. Did not do anything for the box.

A 20 min fix for the large O-ring seal on the pump.

The box I pulled out and had rebuilt locally. installed and it still leaked. Had to pull it out AGAIN and they fixed the problem. Can't say that was much fun, but it's done now and nice to look under the car and see no drips !

I would suggest contacting Steer and Gear.
They can either rebuild yours or exchange it.
They offer a couple levels of firmness in the wheel.
Consider rebuilding the coupler while your are at it.
You can check the coupler by holding the outer tube piece with one hand and trying to turn the steering shaft with the other.
There should be almost no movement.
It's not that bad a job. (Unless you have headers then it kinda sucks)

When I had to replace the box in my 68 Dart GTS I bought the modern feel box from Steer and Gear. Changing it in the Dart was a total bitch as there is no room at all and to lay on my back and lift that dead weight with one hand and try to put a bolt in wasn't fun at all, but it is a great box. Probably will do the same thing with this one.
