I just bought a 65 Coronet and it does not have the vin plate. Has fender tag that matches the core support. The title I got is very old from 1976. Does the serial number on title match the core support number like say a 69 B body would. He says its the correct title. Serial number on title does not have that sequence number. Thanks and how would I get a vin tag because I cant register car in Indiana without a vin that matches title.

Did you check inside the door for the VIN tag? That is where it would be located on the 67 and back cars. That car being a 65 won't have the standard 68 and up vin tag on the dash. Also that SO number doesn't match the last 6 of the VIN. That number didn't start matching until 1969 on the fender tags and the SO number was present on the tag from 1968 and back. That SO number should match the fender tag and the core support. Do they actually inspect the car for a VIN tag or do they just say that its necessary?? I can't imagine anyone now a days knowing what or where the VIN is supposed to be on half this old stuff anymore.

Will an IBM card tie the SO to the VIN?

In PA it needs to be there if it’s not already a PA title.

The only way you can match the VIN to SO is the build sheet.

So to clarify the above for the OP. The radiator support number matches the sales order number on the fender tag but not the vin. If you can find the factory build sheet this will have both the vin and the SO number. With those two And the title you could get the vin tag reproduced. The last path would be Chrysler historical who may have the IBM build card. That ties them together as well. Also a path for documentation to reproduce the vin.

Who is actually reproducing VIN tags though? I didn't think anyone was doing those, just the fender tags.

The fender tag and core support match. I dont have the vin and yes I know its inside door by hinges. In Indiana when you buy a car and it has out of state title the BMV does what's called a title check to verify the vin matches title. I have the vin to car on title obviously but no tag to match so I can register car and get title in my name. I know it's the correct title to car.

Yes it's not there. I have the title it's from 1976 lol. It's the correct title just need a vin plate so bmv can match title vin to car vin. Anyone making vin tags

Was ECS doing repo tags? I know they have rivets and the dry transfer if you paint over your "Chrysler Corp" silkscreen on the later ones.

I'd say just make your own get some tin and some number / letter punch's . Get it all done and mounted let dmv inspect it they would have no idea as soon as you say in the door there going to be like ohhhhh.
Once it passes start looking for a repop company

If you have a valid title, you may not need anything else. At least not here in Wisconsin. My Charger came from Mississippi and I went to the DMV and had no trouble with the transfer. They want to collect tax on the purchase so if the selling price and signature is on the title, you should be good to go.

Here on titles out of state the have to check vin against the title ..I have to have a vin tag made . I would think someone is making them

I'll probably get someone here excited, but I'd purchased a nicely done blank vin tag on eBay from World Wide Decals, 103 North Main St, North Webster, IN 46555. Stamped the numbers myself, glued the new plate in the same position as the original would have been (plus drilled the two locating holes to match those in the door jamb, and called it good. I'd had the car for decades and had no idea what had happened to the original, but like you sound, was comfortable about the background of the car.

A body shop may have removed it eons ago for a repaint, the spot welds failed, etc. Who knows.

I've seen a few state issued vin tags attached to cars over the years and most of them look pretty amateurish to begin with.

Think I'm just going to have one made..one the dumb lady at bmv looks at and the numbers match title she will title it in my name and I can get a plate..that's all that matters
