So you're a former chevy owner? Or maybe still own one?

Posi is a GM term. Sure Grip is the unit Chrysler uses. Don't let it happen again! :poke:

To answer your question they go for $500 on up depending on the condition. Check out ebay for current prices.

Yea i am a chevy guy. i built a 65 plymouth satellite for my grandson to race that was left to him by his other grandad.

It would also depend on whether it’s a clutch or cone type sure grip. Normally 489’s would have a cone type, but this is 50 years later. My 489 case in my 65 has a clutch type which I think is worth slightly more.

Pretty sure a 489 would have the clutch style limited slip. Thought cone style came in with 741/742. Could be wrong. I prefer the clutch type myself.
No idea what just the limited slip diff is worth, maybe 50% of cost of new one. Dr Diff has them new for $395.

It's the "489" case 8-3/4 that normally relates as a "cone" LSD. Many 9-1/4" also had them.

sure as I saw that posting title I knew the word war had just begun......lol A list of a few variables out there.....

Where I come from they were all called posi units and thats what us Mopar guys and Ford guys also called them. Thats like the six pack and six barrel as I call all of them six packs and dont care about it being manufactor correct. Ron

I agree, Ron. If you know what the other guy means when he says 'posi' unit or 'posi-trac', who cares? If you're writing a thesis or book, it's important to get it right, otherwise, chill... JMO
