Does anyone know what engine options were available with the 64 Polara 500. I have found information indicating that the 383 cu in was the standard engine for this model. This car has a standard 318 cu in with a 2 bbl carb.. The vin # begins with 6445. Decoding that I have learned this car 6 = Dodge V8, 4 = Polara 500, 4 = model year 1964, and 5 = assembled in Los Angeles plant. I would like to verify if this car has matching numbers and if it originally came equipped with a 318 engine. Can this be determined?

Thanks

I thought that all 500s 62-64 were always standard with a BB, 318 2v would not have dual exhaust. I have a 64 code book I'll look it up.

I believe these were parallel to the Sport Fury. Standard 318-2v, then optional 361-2v for $58, then 383-4v, then 426-4v. Last one came standard with the 4spd or 727 so the window sticker didn’t have an extra line with cost for the tranny.

Does it have a fender tag? A photo of that will tell what the factory engine was. Over to the left under AB it will have a couple numbers, those will tell the story.

Agree; I have had several 64 Sport Furys with 318's.

Looks like the 225 and 318 were standard on the Polara. The 383 was optional
