My VIN stamped on my engine pad on my 1971 440 block looks as though it was stamped a couple of times and the second time did not line up with first stamping looks blurry.
I have read that some plants did stamp 2 or more times on the engine block pad.
My question is why did some plants do this and has any one else seen this.
Thanks for your help with my questions.

Double stamping is not uncommon and I think credible research would show it's not specific to one plant.

People that make cars are human. Humans make mistakes.

"People that make cars are human. Humans make mistakes." Agreed.....
Someone originally thought my 440 was a 383.

I've been told that they used a pneumatic gun to stamp those numbers and if the operator held the trigger too long you get a double stamp.

It was the 70's. Operators were stoned.
