stock 440 shift light setting?

Ol' Fred, with his own mystery motor (reputedly a 450hp rebuild, but I dunno about that) has
the 484 purpleshaft hydraulic cam, headers, all the usual - and he's done by 5200.
Admittedly, the old AVS needs replaced, but that's about all he wants to turn - and yeah,
440's will certainly tell you when they're ready to shift...if you're listening.

I would say , shift at the RPM which when shifting , the RPM drop puts you in the most acceleration range. Like if your quickest rate of acceleration is from 4000RPM to 5000 RPM, shift at the rpm that the next gear starts you out at 4000rpm. ......................MO

A very slow 8.7 et at 79mph. I would like to test it on a 1/4 but it has a vibration at about 85mph and up. I want to find and fix that first. Maybe Santa will bring me some aluminum heads and intake for Christmas so I can get some more hp.
Wallace conversion to 1/4

1/4 Mile ET is 13.85 seconds 1/8th ET of 8.7 seconds.
1/4 Mile MPH is 97.96 MPH 1/8th MPH of 79 MPH

30 years ago I had a re-ringed 440 short block with totally un-massaged 346’s on it in my heap.
Headers, 4.10’s, 11” converter, I tried a couple different intakes in it too.
Crower 271hdp cam, 780vs carb.
Slicks, SS springs.

It would easily pull to 6k based on the tac needle........ but was quickest when shifted right at 5k.
Mid-12’s with one intake, low 12’s with the other.

Looking at the videos....... my first thought was ...... it needs more stall.
If it still has a factory 12” converter in it......... changing that would liven thing up.
When I first had my car running it had the 12” unit in it.
Pretty tame on the bottom.
I pulled that out and put a tweaked factory 11” unit in it, which made a huge difference in the feel of the car.
