I am permitted but some of these items would be good for my teen aged daughters and wife when I cant be with them.
 
Resolve all your fears at once and move away from the urban areas and out to the country. It's the best thing I ever did.

The CT CC permit isn't much work to get. Not that I walk around with the thing, just not that paranoid.
 
Life Shield is a nice kit for your family members to have handy when you and your firearm are not along to do business...
 
Wife has her guns I have mine we both shoot often and are both very good the kid is always with one of us or grand parents (witch are packing too)

Do you have any dogs? They love children and children love them. Not only are dogs loyal and trustworthy, but they are a deterrent to most bad people.
 
My dog normally backs cars out of my driveway. At worst he gives me time to get armed and walk out to meet them. My black lab is a fair alarm system. If they get past him the wife's cats will trip them like they do me and disable them.

Haaa yup I got 3
130 lb mastiff mix
78 lb pit hound mix
69 lb red noise pit!
The mastiff has taken a liking to the baby and hangs with her all the time he doesn't like people he doesn't know get near her the other two are good for protection too.
And out back there's two aggressive ducks .you all laugh but I've seen them chase grown men out of yard .

Actually not a bad thing for my mom better then her .22 revolver she refuses to get rid of

Yep & in some cases
they will give their lives for you & your family if need be
to protect you
