Need some help solving this problem: got my 496 stroker engine these days and already put it in.
Now, the crank pulley stands out 6mm more, than the one on the previous engine. This means, all other pulleys are 6mm back and belts won‘t run straight!
Are there any crank pulleys available for this particular situation or do I have to cut the 6mm out of the pulley??

It could be that the balancer is thicker than stock.
A buddy I know bought a Fluidamper and had to space the alternator and fan pulley out to compensate.

Yes, that‘s what I think, too. But isn‘t easier to go 6mm back on the crank pulley, than compensate on alternator and power steering?? Only spacers won‘t do the job.

How thick is the Damper? Easiest method may be to have the mounting surface on the damper cut back 6mm.... Anyone with a lathe could easily do that in less than half an hour... Assuming there's enough material...

Typically the pulley is tapered so cutting it down & welding it back together is tough...

Can the damper easiely be remeoved, to cut the mounting surface back?? Seems not to be an easy action!?

Are there any more shallow pulleys, that can be fittet to exact alignment with some shims??

6mm seems like a lot to be off IMO...are you positive the damper is fully seated? What brand/type damper?

I will have to check this. The engine builder is well known for his nice jobs, so I think it is properly seated

The only short pulley option is for a Street Hemi, they ran a thick damper and a shorter pulley... The Hemi pulleys are reproduced but not cheap...

I don't know the exact measurement, you might be able to get info from Bouchlion... Or post a thread about Hemi Pulleys & see if someone knows the info..

There are aftermarket dampers that are thicker like a Hemi, but most have the pulley mounting surface cut to the B-RB depth... There are also aftermarket dampers that aren't properly finish honed so they won't fit the crank.... If the damper isn't properly seated it will cause pulley misalignment but also the crank timing sprocket will only be driven by it's key, the key isn't intended to take that load and it will fail....

This is an important thing t note. Do you know if the builder honed the damper's inner diameter? Many times, and I've run into this myself, the damper is simply too tight to get all the way on. It may get close, but not all the way on. A .001" hone usually does the trick.

Maybe have the builder get the right damper and return the one you have.

I had the same problem when I installed an ATI Super Damper on my last 496. The damper was 0.625" thicker. I resolved the issue with a new billet lower pulley and spacer from March Performance.

If it is an ATI damper then you need shorter pulley. The Doty pulley fits with an ATI damper. You need to post a picture or tell us which damper it is since it is possible that you have some other problem.

I ran into that problem with using the ATI damper. I got the shallow crank pulley from March performance that is supposed to be for a Fluid damper, but it was too shallow, so added a spacer, I think 3/8"? from Andy F

Then I had to figure the correct length bolts to use (1.500")

ATI makes a thinner balancer for that problem

This is the March part #. Plus two 0.375" spacers.

Sorry for the upside down pic. Just noticed it.
