Fuel gauge conversion for 66 Charger

Hi Jim,

I would bet your oil press gauge isn't accurate, if both the fuel and temp gauges don't work. All 3 thermal gauges use 5V, and that points type limiter inside the fuel gauge is probably acting up. , . Once the voltage input goers up (due to the bad internal limiter), the insulated nichrome wire starts to cook and first the calibration goes away, and if over voltage lasts long enough, the wire will burn in half and the gauge will cease to function. That needs to go away if you want the gauges to work correctly from here on out....see above on the IVR-3 RTE limiter conversion...

Thanks,

Mark

Hello, I'm French so sorry if my words are not all right, I'm Ludovic, I live in the south of France and I just bought a 1967 Dodge Charger and as many, lighting, fuel gauge, alternator, temperature and oil pressure doesn't work, I've disassembled everything and the insulated Nichrome wire is black in the fuel gauge , so I must rebuild it, one of you could tell me what Nichrome wire I must buy? and if you have any advice it will be with great pleasure, thank you all

The correct nichrome wire is not readily available. However there are several people on here that can rebuild your thermal gauges. And if the fuel gauge wire is black, most probably the oil press and temp gauges are as well Visit my website for more info, www.thegaugedoc.com

Hello, unfortunately I live in France, otherwise I will have called on someone who has already done it but with the problems of customs and shipments it is too risky. I do not know the electricity well, I ordered 20 Ohms wire, I hope it will be fine :-(

Similarly, in France it is impossible to order IVR-3 RTE, so I will have to use the method of SwedCharger67 12V->5V with the 7805 circuit when I would have preferred your method. Anyway, thank you Mark for your explanations.
