I'm considering changing the the rear wheels and tires on mine and looking for examples of what tire size fits when using a 15 x 7 torque thrust D with 3 3/4 backspacing. The 8 3/4 is stock width and wheelhouses are all stock.
Let me know your thoughts.

On my 66 Coronet I went with 235X60X15 on TTD's. Absolutely no rubbing ever and I put lots of miles on it. You might be able to squeeze a 245 on but I know the 235's work for sure. Stock 1966 XHD springs and torsion bars and the wheels were 15X7.

On our 66 Coronet, we had Torque Thrust 255/60/15 x 8" rims, and had some rubbing on the inside.
Went to 235/70/15 on 7" Torque Thrust, also rubbed, but now on the outside. Had to change the tire to 215/70/15 no rubbing now (we like tall back tires) The issue is the 7" rim has less backspace, so for us in the the future 8" w/ 4" backspace is the way to go, good luck.

I am running a 15"x7" wheel with a 4.25" backspace and a 225-70-15 tire on a '67. Although it is a little close, I do not have any rubbing issues. Your 3.75" backspace would move the wheel 1/2" CLOSER to the wheel lip. In my opinion, that would be too close for comfort unless your tire was narrower.

Kinda want to keep things centered

Check out a member on this site using lemonwedge as his forum name I believe he's running the wheels and tire combo your asking about

Thanks for the replies. Im currently running an 8" Ramcharger style steel wheel with 4.5 of BS and a 255-60 M/T ET Street radial which fits in there fine. I was hoping to hear that at least a 235-60 will work which it sounds like it will based on Runcharger's experience. There is no custom BS options on the American Racing Torque Thrust D's, otherwise this would be a piece of cake.

Yes: That's exactly why I did what I did. The 235's were as much as I could get on the front and I wanted the same size all the way around too. You can definetly get more tire in there but those wheels are what they are. One thing about it, I wanted the 60's-early 70's vibe so they gave that.
