Hi B Body Brothers,

If memory serves me, the original arm sits flush against the steering box up top, but despite my best efforts, this is as high up as I could get it. Does it actually sit like this, and I am just misremembering? Or should I continue via some other technique until it is pressed flush against this lip?

I am pretty sure I did line the teeth up correctly. I got it this far by turning the bolt, but the threads end where it currently sits. Hammering, etc hasn't budged it, putting a jack on it just lifts the entire car.

Normal, not a problem at all, move on to the next thing! See how it runs out of splines and the shaft is smooth?

How could you get a pitman arm puller on that if it was flush with the steering box?

The spline grooves get shallower at the end so the arm can't go any farther. This is how the manufacturer sets the amount of stick out of the pitman arm. Next item on the list...looks pretty greasy/dirty on the box. Does it need any service like reseal kit ? Fix those leaks.

This is exactly what I was hoping y'all would say- thank you for your help

Yeah you've hit the nail on the head- I've not yet driven this car yet, so not sure about the steering- I'm gonna get all the gunk off the box and see what's what but I'm hoping to drive it a while before having to pull the steering apart. Likely I'll be forced to address it. I did already rebuild the power steering pump and it didn't seem to be leaking but we will find out. Thank you for your advice

Are you the guy that was going to make a clone of that Wheels Of Terror movie car? A guy at Dodge Charger.com started a project then got distracted and didn't finish.

I saw that thread! But I am not that guy. Maybe I should finish what he started with my car. I'd feel terrible cutting into this thing for that grimacing front grill look though.....
