Anyone used the 5 speed from a dakota v6 behind a 340? Is this a resonable swap?
Thanks
Pushrod

Having had a Dakota with a 5 speed I'll just caution that there will be no hot rodding. With most truck transmissions any attempts at quick shifts are met with a long forced pause before going into gear. Never had an ounce of trouble with mine, worked great, just not for a muscle car IMO.

I had no problem slamming gears in my 93. They were AX15 transmissions.

If it's the AX15 transmission, it was also pretty popular in Jeeps. It's rated for 300 ft/lb torque.

Thanks for the replies. I'm wanting to gather the parts ,I f this swap is resonable, for a Duster I've had on the back burner for 10 years. It was a 318 car that I swapped for a rebuilt 340 I had laying around.Wanting to build a long range cruiser.

I have the little AX5 in a 4 cylinder jeep and I can shift very fast. Ive raced people at stoplights in my lil 4 banger and won. I have 4.10 gears to help but its a good trans.
