Just bought this car and it has a blue poly 318. Can this possibly be an original engine? The car was one owner until very recently and the seller never touched it. Appears to be 37K original miles car. I was under the impression that Poly would be red in '63, and blue in '64. Late production maybe?

I thought polys were RED..... no blue '64, as far as i know. My '64 plymouth is most certainly red. All the way to '68 from what Ive read, including some LA 318's and 273's.

was there ever a performance version of that engine? I can see why the factory went to the LA engine it looks narrower and would fit easier in A bodies

May even have been a RATTLE CAN rebuild?

I think there were performance versions of the poly, but in the late fifties. I remember seeing factory dual quads, but i dont remember if plymouth , or dodge, or both. All the performance versions ended up on the b/rb versions by the early sixties.

Close inspection might show a place where the blue paint chipped off exposing some red.

I'm wondering if Canada 318s might have been painted blue. They did some weird things to mopars.

Could you post a pic of any number tags under the hood, fenderwell. Look on the door post for the first four numbers of the vin.

Welcome to the site if I missed your "Welcome Wagon". Nice Long Roof BTW

I'll retract my reply on a Canadian built. For one thing it would have a Plymouth dash. I'm not sure they even built wagons, maybe just convertibles.

All the older Mopar small block/slant 6 that I have run across, have been red. I think the BB's were more of a turquoise, rather than Blue, which I believe are post-70's ?

57 Plymouth Fury could be had with a dual quad poly engine. In 58 the Fury could have a B 350 dual quad, no more polys.

Picking the car up tomorrow, so I will be able to inspect much closer. Will post what I find out. I seemed to have forgotten a pic of the fender tag when I inspected the car at purchase.:(

318 polys (A) were available in Furys long after 57. They also had single and dual quads.

You are correct about Polys in Fury's. When I was looking for a car in 63, I came across 2 that had the 350 dual quad engine so I thought it was the standard engine. I never researched that a poly was also available in the 58. Glad my 58 Fury had the B motor. I have the 58 manual and looked it up and they list 2 318 polys for the Fury, both with 290 HP but different torque ratings by 5 lbs and 400 different RPMs.

No idea on why or what for's on engine color but I am the 2nd owner of my 60 Dart Phoenix. Original poly 318 4 bbl has always been silver.
