I have to say that the Charger really looks mean and stereotypical of the era. That wheel/tire and height combination is spot on. Take nothing away from the bird, but it is just a bit high for my taste even back then.

This is what I was rocking in 79

Yea, rim choices were limited back in those days. Had to crank the @ss up to keep from rubbing tires and bring the front up so it didn't look all jacked up @ss end high. (Joe Dirt) The car launched well. In fact I have a picture around here somewhere with the left front tire about 2 inches off the ground at launch. I'll have to dig it up.
I like that Charger too.

Yeah I remember those days well, when it came to wheels/tires it was how wide of a tire can put on and will the rims bolt to the car... height was usually an after thought requiring work to get the wheels/tires to clear.

Proof of years of solid launches below. Both sides. Fixed them once back in high school then again for the current resto. Hardtops weren't made for dragging.
Connectors and torque boxes have been installed but I don't anticipate hitting it as hard as I did back then.

Fantastic pics, thanks for sharing them!
Apparently you had your shiyat squared away at a young age - even better, you kept the car all
these years!
Best I can do from that era:

That is one cool @ss shot, really. We were all so cool back then right?
As far as having my shiyat squared away at that age, my drivers license was 36 points in the hole on an 8 point system. 8 points above was a perfect record at my age.
Had a good Judge that gave me a break because I had enlisted in the USMC.
You a former Jarhead by any chance Morparedtn? "Squared away is a typical Navy or Marine term.
As for keeping it all these years, my wife and a very good friend of mine talked me back from the ledge about 15 years ago from a very generous offer as the car was then.
I'm grateful that they did.
