Hey guys!

So I’m starting the journey of building my first race car. I grew up around drag racing my grandpa has been doing it for about 30 years and always driven a mopar. Naturally I came to love it.

in August I picked up a 1966 Satellite with a 440. Previous owner knew little about the car which has only made things harder for me but I’m sure you know how I feel. My goal for the car is to be a race only 10.50-11.50s runner. Interior is already stripped except for the driver seat and the floor pans don’t look bad.
The engine runs good without knock. Although the last time I started it one of the trans cooler lines popped off and spilled all over the street. Fluid looked contaminated so that’s the first project. Got a new cooler and a new oil pan (with a drain plug in it) so I’ll be replacing the trans fluid and flushing the radiator as well. Planning to pull the block and have a machine shop check it out as the car did sit for about two years before I bought it.

All of the major maintenance is a bit daunting to be honest but I’m excited to learn. I’ll post updates when I get the time to work on it. Along with picks throughout the process. If anyone wants to drop any advise that’s awesome and for any other newcomers I hope maybe I could help you with any knowledge I get. Have a good one fellas!
Mopar or no car!

Welcome to FBBO looks like you've have a project. The steering column looks long.

Rear tire width may be an issue you need to contend with. I'm not a Racer but I have a 66 as well. Good luck with it and have fun.

Welcome from Michigan, the Motor City! An 11.00 sec car takes some serious HP and chassis setup. 440'

Welcome to the club!
An 11.50 or quicker car is fairly simple these days. But from my early drag racing days in the '70's, "all it takes is money, time, and ambition... all in the appropriate amounts".
Figure out what your existing 440 is. This probably requires a complete disassembly. Plan on machine work and and a bunch of small parts, maybe a few big ones.
If you get the power, you need to pay lots of attention to the chassis set up. That doesn't mean spending big money, just good combination.

11.49 and quicker will require a roll bar. Good luck with the build and remember you can get a baseline to get out and have fun and upgrade as funds allow

Looks like maybe it had a standard and was bottle fed at one point.

welcome and sweet score on the car.
