PC desktop, laptop, ipad, other?

I'm a desktop guy, always have been since the days we built our own (I learned BASIC, COBOL and FORTRAN in high school many moons ago). I ran DOS and did my own programming, but finally gave in to Windows when hardware finally gave us hard drives big enough to actually use it effectively (I think it was Win 3.1 or some such).
I stopped building my own when the market made it so I could get a new "hotrod" factory built cheaper than I could build it (and had a warranty to boot).
These days, it's a Win10 system on a store bought hotrod BUT I run a Win7 emulator program on it, so the computer totally looks and functions like an old Win7 system.
Win10 is fine for pads, phones and such, but it just doesn't work for me on a PC.
We've got laptops and Ipads and such, but I really don't like them much.

Monitor gets a little bigger the older I get (I think this one is like 23"?) and I still use a white keyboard with black letters on it (I can't see the black ones well at all). I have a stash of old white Logitech keyboards and occasionally buy another case of them off eBay upon occasion (I am rough on keyboards - heavy fingers!).
I also use a serious sound system on this thing, always have, in this case a $$$ Bose system. Sounds better than any other computer speaker system I've ever tried.

Yes, I've had cell phones since a former employer issued me one many moons ago. I ran a Windows-based phone until this last go-round, when it became clear support of those was dwindling.
Current animal is a big ol' Motorola Moto Z Force Droid that's big enough for old eyes to use, comes with a 4 year warranty against screen breakage (gorilla glass) and is built like a tank (milspec). Android OS.
OtterBox rubberized case for even more protection (I tend to be a little hard on phones, too).
It's used primarily for work; I'm not one of those folks who play with their phones constantly.

Still miss having XP Pro!!

I still run XP, IMO it was one of the best OS programs Microsoft had. Pisses me off when they get something that works well and then change it up.

XP, with a good anti-virus and Firefox suites me fine.

No highs, No lows, must be Bose...
:poke: :p:D
After decades in the A/V business and 2 published theater rooms, EVERY speaker I have, including outside and computer is Klipsch, except for my theater sub, which is a Definitive Technology Trinity Supercube.
This is similar to the system I have:

*rolls eyes* Oy, an "audiophile". Y'all crack me up. :)
Lookit...
An audiophile I ain't and I'm not interested in a debate...
and keep in mind, I'm not talking A/V this and Theater room that here - we have other equipment for that.
I was referring simply to PC speaker sets - and I'd put up my old, obsolete Bose system against anyone's
consumer grade computer speaker setups.
Between the wife and I, we've had a couple dozen such setups here at one time or another, trying
them out. She's currently running a Klipsch with subwoofer and little towers now, in fact, after our latest
round of trying several.
It's not bad at all, probably the best under $500 set for PC out there, since they haven't made my Bose
system for a while now - and current Bose stuff ain't what it used to be.
But my old Bose stuff? There's no weakness in the whole frequency range and along with an equalizer
app I use, I have it so dialed in. As an old frustrated musician wannabe, I like to be able to isolate any
instrument on a given track and I can with this setup.
I hope it never lays down on me, honestly.

I have my own network.

To each his own. I'm glad you like it, and I definitely understand finding a "sound" and not wanting it to end, because some replacement may never "do it" just right again.

Desktop PC thank you :carrot:custom built

I really don't know how some of you guys
can see ****
or do ****
on a tiny phone or tablet

I see people slumped over out in public,
pecking away constantly, all the damn time,
NO THANKS

I don't need the crap when I leave my office
I'd rather not have it when I leave my office either

it's complete freedom, to be disconnected
unless I want to sit down at my PC :blah:

I fully agree (as I sit, slumping over my teeny tiny iphone)

I was in Safeway the other day, watched an attractive lady
mid late 40's is my guess, she walk right into an open automatic door
head down, typical phone posture, thumbs pecking away
just looking at the screen, not seeing what's right in front of her...

I even yelled out 'watch out lady', she was oblivious of it...

I walked over & helped her up, asked if she was OK,
understandably, she was really embarrassed, but she was OK...
We talked for a bit, she was on the phone/texting what to get for Easter
with a girlfriend, she claimed...

Being single :bananadance:
I noticed, no wedding ring or engagement ring etc.
& it's rare around these parts,
to see an attractive lady, that's not spoken for....

Tried to get a #digits, I was shot down like a zero in WWII...

but she took mine :blah:

99.8% of the time I'm on this forum I am on my Note (9) phone. Good size screen, one of the largest phones.
No problems.

Shopping for an iPad. Don’t want latest greatest high $$$. Around 300. Renewed” on Amazon. Looking at an iPad 6 Gen. MUST have cellular capability. Told it needs a SIM card and GSM is good. Want a larger screen. This keyboard on
this phone is a pia. How can I confirm this and make the right purchase. How risky used?

I have purchased a few renewed ones for work. No problems at all. Just make sure the carrier is the one you use. It should specify AT&T, Verizon, etc. Your carrier will provide the SIM when you add it to your plan. Make sure to get it on your plan and its working before the return period expires.
