Guys, I have used a conventional gun for many years now, till it croaked, and was given a brand new HVLP gun. Its a Finex 1.3 and the only difference I can read is it takes 29 psi MAX. Is that the only difference...do y'all use em...which type do you prefer. Not planning to use for primer , base coat, clear coats and single stage only....thanks....

HVLP only for me.
With the cost of paint, I like to transfer as much as possible to the work.
I’m using Iwata stuff.
Super Nova to be exact.

I've always loved my Binks syphon feed but have finally gotten used to my HVLP. Like mentioned the HVLP's waste less paint, it was quite the adjustment for me though.

Once you go HLVP you'll never go back. Kick it up a notch and add DeKups to your list, you wont regret it.

Yeah, with the cost of paint these days, HVLP guns Rock! Much less wasted material
and if you've ever applied primer with a HVLP gun with a 2.4mm nozzle, it'll make you
wonder why you ever liked a siphon gun! Don't need a 10HP compressor to keep up.

Ok, so you like to primer also with the HVLP with the big nozzle. I may try that also as I still use my old siphon pot for the thick stuff. Plan is for first use to cut in a trunk using single stage....so looking to learn something new...what size nozzle would be good for epoxy primers....not quite as thick as the K2000...thanks all.....

If you lookup the Epoxy primer you plan to use, it will specify what size nozzle
to use. Takes all of the guess work out. You can spray more material on faster
and keep it wet!

I bought a Devilbiss Finish line, finish pro?? It came with 3 tips, between the 3 it covers everything pretty good. I know it's not the top of the line but for $200 it's proven to be a good reliable gun capable of putting down a smooth finish. Comes apart easily, cleans up great and has had zero issues.

I also have the Devilbiss Finish Line two gun setup as well. Three tips pretty much cover everything. I would only use HVLP unless my compressor could not keep up. So efficient, easy to use and clean, the only way to go these days.

1.4 is what I use for epoxy primer sealer
DP 90 , 50 ect
A deltron primer 3055 ect I use a 1.8

Ppg 3000 or 4000 I will use the 1.4
Some will go smaller tip for clear , I like full wet coats, just me.
I more thing dont get hung up on pressure, you have some room to play around with it. it's your pattern , distance, and hand / arm speed that counts.

Thanks 1967, I have moved to a really small po dunk town and now having to use some off brand , cheaper primers and sealers. They do not list tip sizes as a guide , so , I am having to experiment on my own.....let the fun begin.....

You should be able to go to the product website and it will give you a size tip.
I love my TCP HLVP, good quality and relatively cheap too.
I used a high build primer and beleive it required a 1.8 tip

Got me a new toy the other day.......used my buddies and just had to splurge! Thing lays paint like a dream!

My C.A.T. gun came with both HVLP and Compliant (reduced pressure) tips. I like the compliant version more than the HVLP. A bit easier on the compressor too.

That isn't cheap!!

No but I figure it'll last me a lifetime as I do one car every 3 years or so. The compliant gun made a bit more overspray so I went with this as both sprayed awesome and I just do it in my garage so less overspray is better. My Iwata LPH400 must be the slowest gun I have ever sprayed with and this was lightyears faster when I tried my buddies which is my style. No more struggling for me with this gun! Got the 1.4 tip in the "O" pattern.

Thats awesome, I paint about the same amount of cars you do and I have a variety of HVLP guns with the best being the Devilbiss finish line. I have thought many times about getting a really "good" gun but just never have.
