I have the correct set of water pump housing to engine block bolts from AMK.
Going on a 68 383 block.

The set contains of

4x short bolts (2.7")
3x longer bolts all of different length (4.2", 3.6", 3.2")
1x washer

Can you please say me the correct position of each bolt and which bolt uses the washer?

Thanks

Normally just try to start them if you have about a half inch of thread to go in you are good. Some may be for brackets hence longer.

The longest bolt goes through the bottom left hole, (alternator bracket first, then gets a spacer) and then through the housing. The other long bolts it depends if you have power steering or not. If yes, the 3.5" goes through the lower bracket hole and through the bottom right hole on the housing. If no P/S use the 3.2". The others go in all the other holes and the washer would go on the alternator bracket bolt.

Did they send any instructions?

Depends if you have A/C or not. The idler bracket takes 2 long bolts and a spacer. Water pump housing has 6 holes, you have 7 bolts. Is one for top Bolt of alternator? or top of PS pump?

Put them through the housing when it’s off the engine and see how far the come out the other side of the holes.

I think one of them needs put in before you screw in the heater hose nipple also. Could be wrong though, it’s been a while. Hopefully someone corrects me if I’m wrong.

I found this on the A bodies site for a 440. Should be the same for your 383. Not sure why there are 2 variations.

That drawing looks like it could have been drawn by a six year old! :D

I always just use what fits. I learn what fits by trying them one by one.

The one behind the heater hose nipple gets the washer.

Strange thing.. the top left bolt has no supposed hole with threads in the engine block. The ear is missing on my block but from what I can tell when the engine was bare, unpainted the surface was in that area had cast appearance just like all around.
69 383 block

Has anyone seen this before? Any reasons?

Looks like my water pump housing will only have two bolts holding it to the block on this side..

It is missing part of the casting there. May or may not have an issue with a water leak out the top area without the third bolt.

The one behind the heater hose nipple gets the washer.
I disagree with that statement, I am in the process right now of installing my water pump housing on my 69 440 and the bolt with the washer installed will not permit the pipe nipple to fit.

You have resurrected a 2 year old thread. Are you using an "H" bolt? Every original bolt I have removed has had a thick washer and an "H" bolt. You are free to use or not use though.

Are you using the OE heater fittings or pipe nipples?
