This was in the trunk of my 63 Sport Fury when I got it. Never seen anything like this before. The cap is in two pieces with rubber in between. The wires go thru the top part into the rubber piece on the bottom half. There are no clips on the wires to hold them in place nor any screws in the cap to screw the wires to the terminals (like a Vertex mag). Can anybody tell me anything about this? Ive never seen one before. It has the Mallory name on the top piece.

It has Mallory on the top but I just dont get the two piece cap and can see no way to get the wires to stay in. What am I missing?

Yes, Mallory dual point. A really good product in the early '70's. Mine worked really good, up to 7,000 RPM all the time. I only dimly remember the 2 piece cap style.
Edit: Was a top quality product. I think I've recently seen replacement parts are available.

Thanks for the info. I was thinking about having it rebuilt and using it if parts were available.

When you screw the cap pieces together, the rubber will compress to hold the wires and seal the openings - they won't go anywhere when it's together.

If I recall, I had to silicone the wires to slide them through the rubber boot and then the wire end speared into the spike on the lower part of the cap & the 2 cap halves screwed together. The distributor was a great piece. Only replaced the Mallory when I got an electronic Hemi tach drive from John Hagen. Still run that one today.

Thanks for all the info. Thats what I was looking for. Sounds like it is a good piece so when I replace the old distributor I'll have this one rebuilt. Its the only one Ive ever seen.

I had a Mallory awhile back. I believe the cap was called a crab or something. Under those wires are sharp "pins" you push the wires down onto. Yep the compression of the 2 together is what holds everything in place.
