hey all, im helping a buddy with detailing his suspension, let me first say i pretty much know whats correct for a top notch resto, this aint it.... we dont want to use RPM or other rust preventitive stuff we want to use rattle can stuff over epoxy... here's my question, do you guys have a go to rattle can to mimic the bare natural steel and bare cast, something over the counter would be nice. any suggestions on color and brand would be appreciated..Rich

Eastwood Cast Blast & Detail Gray. Some parts you can leave natural and lightly coat with a satin clear. You can also order the paint that mimics the cosmoline that was used on the lower control arms. Restorick.com sells it.

My son got some satin black epoxy from Summitt. Relatively inexpensive and looks pretty damn nice. Everything was media blasted before paint.
If you've already put epoxy down, it will have to be sanded if you put another finish over the top of it. Epoxy is tough stuff to sand.

tnfastback, im very familiar with eastwood products, im looking for something down the street at a local parts store, Lee, ive had my share of sanding epoxy primer, i plan on shooting urethane over the epoxy for all the black items

Dupli-color makes cast paint and can be picked up at local parts houses. Also Krylon battery terminal protector looks a lot like cosmoline for the control arms. It can also be purchased locally.

i have had good luck with the dupli-color paints, thanks for the tip about the cosmoline .... that cast paint will be good for what hes doing, now i need something that mimics bare steel

I used Krylon satin clear after soaking my driveshaft in Evapo-rust and it turned out great. Also did the same on my Z-bar/torque shaft.

thanks for your help guys, lots to think about and some cool tips.... you guys never disappoint...........

So I did puff can paints on my lower control arms. I blasted them, painted the entire thing with POR 15 stainless steel paint which I got at the local parts store, and then masked and hit them with the Krylon battery protectant. I ran the battery protectant to mimic being dipped in cosmoline

Don't know about Krylon Battery Protector, but when my TRW ran out and Napa said: No longer available, I looked at the ingredients on the label and it showed only one ingredient: Clear Acrylic Enamel. Clear acrylic enamel is much cheaper than battery protector.
