Location
NZ - just short of the South Pole
Having contributed to another thread, and slightly causing it to veer off-topic (most unlike me) I thought it would be fun to see who lives near actual movie or TV program set locations.

The first ones I am offering up are actually near other members - @Photon440 for one....and was the inspiration for this thread. I would also like to point out that this first contribution counts as a monumental cock-up by the 'Props' Dept on this series franchise.

Stargate SG-1 is a longtime favourite TV show of mine...I have all the DVD sets, and recently finished watching them all again. In season 10, I couldn't help but think there was an unusually large error in filming - while travelling down the freeway from the local Police Station in Colorado in pursuit of the bad guys, Lt. Col Mitchell appears to magically find himself in Surrey, Canada......the Props guys managed to arrange all the cars in the scenes with Colorado license plates, but somehow overlooked the Freeway signage. :D

Please post up your locations or errors here ...with pictures...because as we all know,

Big Fish was made here. Mostly a flop as movies go. Also HGTV "Hometown" is now working on the "Big Fish" movie feature house and updating the town in certain areas. Wetumpka, Alabama.

Not sure about any TV shows but a few movies come to mind that were shot near me.
The movie "The Toy" with Richard Pryor was shot on a plantation about a mile from my house. The latest Dukes of Hazard
movie was shot in Baton Rouge and in East Feliciana parish. We got to see some of the stunts and scenes being filmed.
I wish that I would had the extra time to help with the vehicle repairs for the Dukes of Hazard movie. Has some friends who worked at night
rebuilding and building cars for the movie.
Mr. Jerry Hall has a red 1967 GTX that was in the pilot movie for the Viper TV show. I have copy of that movie. The GTX was blown up at the end. But it really was a 66 Belvedere dressed to look like the GTX.

"They", the Hollywood type film a lot (or did before the 'virus') around here.
Falcon Crust, er Crest the TV show was filmed a few miles away and every summer USED to see some sort of film crew somewhere in the valley.
I have been inconvenienced trying to get somewhere on several occassions due to streets being closed for filming.
Don't they know who I think I am?

Incident at Oglala
North by Northwest
Little Big Man
Thunderheart
National Treasure
The Plainsman
Wild Bill
How the West Was Won
Gunsmoke's: Snow Train
Dances with Wolves
Armageddon

It is surprising to see a familiar landmark or to hear your town mentioned in a TV show or movie.
My town is never mentioned but nearby cities and towns have been.

The series Ice Road Truckers and Ice Pilots NWT were filmed around here. It was normal to go to the Buffalo office or airport and walk in on the filming. We still bump into may of the stars all of the time but here they are just our neighbours, not stars.
The Steve Martin movie Roxanne was filmed in Nelson, B.C. where my family is from. During filming Darryl Hanna and entourage were out boating and the boat broke down. They came ashore on my cousins beach and chatted amicably until they were retrieved.
One time in Scotland we were taking the bus somewhere. There was a very dignified, very cool Crocodile Dundee character on the bus with us. Turns out he was part of one of those “where are they now” shows. He had left his family in Scotland for Australia fifty years earlier and was being brought back now for the first time by the production company to surprise his family so it could be filmed for TV. Coolest guy ever, and exactly like Crocodile Dundee in the best way.

Oh man, A lot of films were shot in Evanston, IL. where I grew up.
About Last night
The Uncle Buck house
The Weatherman
16 Candles
Home alone 1
Home alone 2
Countless others I'm sure along with Northwestern Univ. and Lakefront scenes.

A couple of really bad B movies, nothing else. Blue Valentine?, never heard of it.
Except on the TV side, the dumbest show ever - The Office (Scranton). Even that was just a bunch of cameos, not really filmed there.

Dirty Mary Crazy Larry a bunch of scenes were shot here,
the store they robbed old Save Mart
(my old across the street neighbor, Tom was the real mngr. at the time)
& a bunch of the back streets, Mary's grandfathers place, hotel
& hill were, the Mngr. wife & daughter/house were held,
were shot here in Sonora
So was a bunch of old westerns shows, lots of Maverick stuff
Jamestown, just down the 108, was a big western hubs/film location

Find a good source by searching: Films set in _____ (Type in the State). Then scroll down the results until you see: imdb.

This is a drug dealer's house in the movie 'Training Day" right at the top of my hill. At the bottom there's a busted up Charger out in the driveway, if you're wondering which house is mine lol

Although this is a kid's movie, I was actually involved as a paid extra to 'drive' a boat around the edge of this scene. The movie is "Alien's in the Attack" and was supposedly set in the Michigan Lake area. It is quite obvious to most here that the scenery is definitely not a lake, and nowhere near Michigan. The small boat in the distance was the vehicle Wrangler for the crew, and he was constantly on the R/T warning of approaching vessels that could potentially spoil the shot. We had a huge cruise liner pass in the distance at one point.

The location was just one hour north of my home in the Hauraki Gulf - near Martins Bay.

The scene in particular that I was involved in was the actual few seconds (about 3-4) of 'Ricky' throwing Ashley Tisdale into the water while being possessed by the Alien technology. All day it took to film those precious few seconds. I was driving around in a 17' Bayliner - not the most suitable craft for oceans and surf. My buddy Nigel was on a lake-style fishing punt, and had the job of ferrying the cast between their caravan (60' pleasure boat' and the set - which was another large vessel moored just off the beach. camera trickery and filming angles make it look reasonably authentic.

There were two guys in scuba gear in the water all day for this scene - as rescue in case the actors had difficulty. I was yelled at by the Director for creating a bit too much wake with my boat, and was asked to move another 100 yds away. Suited me....laying in the sun and watching people work was a great way to earn $250.

A few TV commercials are filmed at my local BP Station - about one mile from home. I guess because it is a newer station, and the area is relatively uncluttered, it makes for an easy location. This one featuring a Smurf promotion was done about 3 years ago. It took all day to film on location, and closed the station all day from around 5:00am to 11:00pm.

The Smurfs are back with BP. • The Smurfs - YouTube

Couple of errors though....
  • School girl is wearing a uniform which comes from nowhere near this area
  • Cars are driving the wrong way through the station
  • the staff in the gas station are white .... all them are Indians in reality.

I don't think you can drive very far any day of the week without stumbling across a film location or signs stapled to poles directing crew and cast to some production (the signs are usually in code, but bright dayglow pink or yellow).
Here's a list of Vancouver and surrounding areas used for a lot of familiar shows: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_filming_locations_in_the_Vancouver_area

Here in Dallas Georgia they filmed the remake of Footloose and they are currently filming Star Girl TV show in downtown.
