I recently purchased and would like to change to power steering....can it be done with oem parts? Other year vehicle parts? What is all needed? New Mopar owner, retired mechanic...have tools and time but not knowledge of what's needed.
I've seen aftermarket kits but.....$1200 ??? Any advice is appreciated...maybe links..

Someone over on FCBO is doing the exact opposite of what you want to do, removing the power steering. Why on God's green earth he's want's to is beyond me? So, yes, it can be done. Good Luck

Stock power steering unit will probably interfere with installation of most aftermarket headers if you have a B or RB engine. Borgeson unit is expensive, but will save having to dent the headers for clearance.

I did this on a 66 Belvedere II about 5 years ago. I used a stock power steering box, power steering pump and pulleys and had to change steering columns to one that came from a power steering car. So you would need power steering box, power steering pump and pulleys, hose and steering column from an auto car due to different lengths. I dont know if one from a non power steering car can be made to work as I had a auto column and used it. I had a 383 with headers and no issues and it has a 440 with stock hp manifolds now and no clearance issues with either set up. Good luck with swap and hope this helped.

I suggest you give steer and gear a call.
They can help with the majority of the parts at a reasonable price.

I did this swap many years ago on my 67 Coronet. It's a 383 4 speed car, so I didn't want to put an automatic column in it. I did have a PS column out of the 67 auto car I had been driving. I disassembled both columns and just switched the center shafts.

I'm gathering the parts now to do the same to my 71RR. I have stock manifolds so getting a power steering gear in there is not a problem. I decided to use stock components as my car is all stock, if it wasn't I would of considered Borgeson. I choose Stear &Gear modern feel as they are closer to me to save on freight. Have not installed yet still gathering the parts. I'm just waiting for the power steering pressure control valve to come in. Note, this part does not come with any remanufactured gear, I found that out the hard way. You will need to address the steering shaft, I found one from a power steering column so I'm doing a swap, but many people have told me just to colapse the manual steering shaft. I'm at 1300 to do the swap, including the shipping and taxes.
