I inherited my father-in-laws '92 2500 Ram plow truck some 10 years now since he passed. He bought this new getting the plow put on right after he bought it. Have a shared 1/4 mile driveway with da in-laws. Man the old truck with manual trans still runs strong as the body rusts away and with my 2 grand investment to keep it going. Over past two + years put a new motor on the plow, new solenoids, rely, new lines, new filter/o-rings, used control box found on eBay luckily that plugged right in, and was working fine...until putting the plow on today dammit! Come to find the friggin pump housing is cracked spewing all the new fluid I put in last year. How da hell this happened who knows. The old nickel & dime thing...now hunting for a new pump housing and looks like I buy a whole rebuilt unit. PIA given several other projects I'm working on. What's my point guys? Nothing - just venting! lol

Seems if its not one thing its another, good luck on your hunt.

Ron, I believe the cracked pump housing is a common problem with those. Is it an E47 unit? I believe I have a used one sitting around. I want to say the rebuilts are running $600 or so.

I live East of Buffalo, the "Snow Belt". How 'bout a pic of that "Beast"! If you can't find the part, maybe I can hunt one down for you. Plenty of skeletons up here...

GRRRRR I hate winter too, pisses me off to no end. I got 1 foot out the door , and heading to SW Florida ASAP:praying:

I would think a good truck/plow shop could come up with a pump that wasn’t so fragile. Is it integral to some other part of the plow?

maybe ingested water through the seals and froze! I plowed for 6-7 years and never had a meyers problem other than solenoids. I actually preferred the western plow with pump mounted on inner fender and trans fluid not the meyers johnnie walker blue.
I think the meyers will angle instead of lift when a solenoid craps and that's dangerous in tight quarters.

Greatly appreciate all your messages & suggestions! Aha - yeah moving south would solve my hassle! My buddy and I gawked at it in the vice surprised to find the crack in the case where it abuts the solenoid block thinking how da hell did this happen. Freezing would be about the only thing could imagine; but I had flushed it all out putting in new fluid last year and we've not had any real cold weather yet around here. Could be the crack developed over sometime and got worse to finally blow. Well, it's 28 years old. It's an E-60 Meyers, now obsolete, but could still find some parts for it as I had past couple years. This problem though says time to open da wallet more to find a rebuilt...I'll send a photo so you can see what's what. Thanks!

Here is photo of the plow unit - crack is at the bottom of pump housing where it connects to the solenoid block looking all out of place. Yeah, have to think it got water in it and froze at some point and finally cracked enough to blow...

At least you have a plow. I bought a plow for my new GMC Sierra in 2009. Bought a new Ram Rebel in 2018 figuring I'd transfer the plow to it. Found out after selling the Sierra that you cannot put a plow on the newer Ram 1500 because the frame has been redesigned and won't hook up. Warranty will be void if one is adapted. :(

I have an old 85 Ramcharger that is a factory Sno-Commander, with an E47 Meyer plow system....works great.

I resealed the pump assembly a few years ago after buying it, and I change the fluid in it every year before winter sets in and it still amazes me how much moisture and water gets in the fluid.

Wonder if you could adapt the E47 since they are more plentiful?

now that I think about it! it was an arctic plow that had pump on the inner fender, great unit. we had so many trucks I don't want to remember! had one with the belt driven pump on a ford dually, what a **** design, everytime you got in heavy blowing snow the belt would slip!

Here's my plowers view of my driveway with the old '92 Dodge 2500 few years ago. My house is upper right and drive wraps around beyond the trees to my in-laws house; drive is about 1/4 mile. I'm finding a few e-60's yet but waiting on my brother-in-law to see what he can come up with. If I recollect the e47 doesn't have some blade controls the 60 has? Wise thing changing fluid! I didn't do this every year...could be why I'm in the bucket of...now.

I inherited a Jeep Cherokee after my SIL totaled it. It wasn’t totaled, as the “frame” wasn’t bent as the body shop said it was. $400 put it back on the road with close to undamaged condition. Well, no one in the bigger family wanted it, so I was stuck with it (good for me!). Then, I figured 4X4 so let’s plow some snow! My driveway is about 600’ long, so this would help. After Googling Cherokees and snow plows, everyone said “NO” because it didn’t have a frame, only a unibody. Then I searched for front end hitch kits and found JC Whitney had them for $100. I bought a $375 Meyers plow on eBay. I modified the front end hitch kit and mounted it to the Cherokee. I bought an old T-5 hydraulic unit on eBay and mounted it on the front hitch Then Viola! A snow plow Cherokee. I’ve used it for about 12 years now, plowing not only my driveway, but many others too. Don’t let them tell you what to do my friend!

Ingenuity at its best!

Put a half of a shot glass of straight antifreeze in the fluid, that way if or when you do get water in the unit it won't freeze. The antifreeze wont hurt anything inside an E47 but water will.

I've rebuilt tons of them, pull the valve block off the there's 3 o rings between it and the motor assembly may just have an o ring leaking if its cracked on just the flange it doesn't have fluid in that area unless crack is extending up,but if rings are leaking it will leak through crack or not,l have repair manual and can give you the part number if case is bad
