Hello, so I was wandering if the front of the car is removable to where I can just lift this motor out of my 73 charger it’s a 318 take a look at this video and let me know if this part is removable
Will it come out with the trans?not unless you chop it out or drill spotwelds. your engine will come out with that in place.
Yes, if you have the car lifted up a bit so the tail of the transmission can move down enough (and, of course, you have a cherry picker). It takes a couple of people to do this safely. Will it come out with the trans?
Or you can drop both out the bottom along with the K frame, thats how the factory put them in and to be honest I think it is probably easier. Takes a little more planning but the result is better.
I always just drop the trans out first, then pick the motor. To each their own.
Good point. If you're gonna do one at a time and not together, on '73's, it's easier to do the engine first because of the 'extra' crossmember for the torsion bars.
As several have mentioned. It is easier if? What are you wanting to do? If you want to change the big K member bushings, yes out the bottom. If you have good bushings, out the top. I found that pulling the engine without the trans is very easy. I did it to a 73 Satellite by myself, (I was 69 years old when I did it), and did not even take the hood off. I also put a 400 BB stroker with 727 together in a 76 Dodge Aspen, again by myself. With the hood on. Now that was a drastic angle. Just used a floor jack to put the end of the Trans on when I got it close so the trans would move easy without my help. Just take your time, constantly look for clearances and possible scratches. If you're gonna do one at a time and not together, on '73's, it's easier to do the engine first because of the 'extra' crossmember for the torsion bars.
