Doing some cleanup on my '70 500, getting ready to do motor mounts, and I was looking for stampings on the engine (I've had the car for 13 days so I'm still accumulating details). The front of the block has stamped into it "RM318R 32580817".

I presume that means I have a reman motor - RemanMotor318Rebuilt?

Once I have mounts in hand, I'll check casting numbers - I just haven't gotten under the car yet. No lift in the garage...and at my age, it takes more effort than it used to, to crawl under a car!

Just curious if anyone knows if that stamping sequence does mean it's a remanufactured motor...?

You sure thats not FM318R?
F=1970
M=Mound Rd Engine Assembly Plant
318 pretty self explanatory..
R=Regular Fuel
3258=date from the Chrysler's 10,000 Day Calendar June 30th 1970
0817=eight hundred & seventeenth built that day...

BTW If 3258 is correct that is an extremely late engine for a 1970 vehicle... Certainly possible but late...

Could be an FM...I'll have to find a way to clean that first letter better (my wire wheel was hitting other stuff before I could really get that digit).

The car is a July 70 build, so it is possible....

Sounds very promising for numbers matching....

July is the last of 70 production... I had a Challenger with a 723 (July 23rd) SPD, only seen a couple cars later than that... What's the SPD on your Charger?

My SPD is 706. I'm definitely going to check those numbers once I get under the car to put new mounts in!

630 EAD (Engine Assembly Date) 706 SPD cutting it close.... But the EAD on my current (for the past 25 years) Challenger is actually after my cars SPD... Obviously my car was built later than the scheduled production date...

OK, below the left headgasket is PM318R 32580817. First digit is definitely a P.

The casting number looks to me like 2566080 318-14 but it was just about impossible to get a decent photo of it.

The date on the right side is hard to read - again, tough to get a decent camera angle without a lift. I think the first digit is a 4? 4 * 17 * 69 and the little clock is pointed at 10 o'clock.

And, I scraped the crap off the right side pan rail.... 0G254178.

YEAH, BABY!!! It's got the original motor in it!!!

"PM" still equals Mound Road, Detrioit Michigan engine plant.

You sure there's not an F in front of the PM if you're sure it's a P you're seeing.

It could be FPM318 or FM318.. or someone forgot to stamp the year F

Or someone grabbed a P instead of an F.....
