I'm looking for a 23 spline A833 for my 1969 Roadrunner. From reading I see the tailshaft housing has different shifter mounting locations. So my question is what year A833 do I need for a direct bolt up ?

Going on memory (feeble at best) you need a 66-69 b body version. In 70 I believe the rear mount moved a bit as did the shifter mount position. Later ones then had two mounting locations for the shifter.

Pre 66 you can run into the pre-slip yoke version tail housing version, known as ball and trunion. Difference is immediately apparent because of the flange at the end of the transmission. That you won't want.

One other word of caution: a few variations in the transmission input shaft housing and hole size diameter in the back of the bell housing depending on the year. I don't remember when specifically the diameter grew some due to a larger input shaft bearing. I remember earlier ones had a smaller input shaft bearing, but believe that was all prior to 1966. Just worth checking to be sure depending on what bellhousing you're using.

I'm sure someone will chime in to clarify this for you. Sorry I can't be more specific.

You want to use the long tailshaft 833 with the front shifter mount for your car. Ok to use a later year (70+) trans which will have a second shifter mount on the far back end of the tailshaft, just make sure the front mount boss has been drilled and tapped.

And IIRC, some late model 69's came with the dual mount tailshafts.....or was it that not all 70 cars had it?

There are 3 input diameters.
4.35 small block and pre68 big block
4.87 big block
5.125 overdrive 75up
Brewer's sells different input collars and I think an adapter ring
The trans mount moved to the automatic position in 70 and you have to use an auto cross member
You need the long tail shaft b or e body trans. Not the short a and f body.
First gear changed to 2.47 from 2.65 in 71 and 3.09 in the 75up overdrive.
There were a few 3.09 first, 1:1 fourth made

Big thing to pay attention to also is the front bearing retainer diameter needs to match the bellhousing. They had small and large bearing retainers that corresponded with the matching bellhousing. You can convert a small retainer to a large one but you cannot convert a large retainer to a small due to the bigger bolt circle on the bolt pattern. Brewers sells the conversion retainers.

man we sent the info at the same time...haha!

I may have what you're looking for. If interested, shoot me a pm.

and... there are two different cross members pre-70 and 70+ I believe and both will bolt right in...so, say a 67 trans will be just fine. I believe all the trans have the mount for the b-body shifters, but only the 70+ trans will work for E bodies.
