Last night was a bit nerve racking. The culmination of the last 3 years of body work came together as I got ready to spray color (Y2 Sunfire yellow) on the exterior of my 69 Bee. Well, I did it!!! A few small problems during the process but I worked them out. The biggest of those was I had about 2 1/2 or three coats on with the Original gallon Of Y2 I bought. I bought another gallon today from the paint store where I got the first one. Sprayed down the quarter panel and it is slightly different. Before I decided to get upset, I decided to keep painting and using it anyway. I also noticed some small imperfections that sparked memories from over the last couple years of working in it night and day. The literal blood, sweat, and tears shed during all of the work I’ve done. I put the final coat on with the new paint and now I am going to put clear on and call it mine.

Good job  Dig that sunfire
Yeah each gallon can vary just a touch, always a good idea to combine and blend all the gallons together in a 5 gallon plastic bucket with a auger attached to a drill motor. Just one trick to keep some of the anxiety out of it. Gun pressure and temp play a part along with mix ratio. Digital scale is the way to go...IMO

I just wanted to thank everyone for their comments. I really appreciate it. I just stopped at the paint store to get some more of the gloss. I also bought a new disposable respirator. The guy was telling me how dangerous the chemicals are in the paint and then even my beard not letting my mask seal completely could cause some serious issues. Looks like I’ll be shaving when I get home. I don’t want to end up in the hospital or dead from these chemicals crystallize in my lungs like he said.

In my younger and dumber days I did some painting with no mask at all, lungs hurt like a mother for weeks after that.....sure that won't come back to bite me in the *** as i get older. :( You can always grow the beard back...better safe then sorry. ;)

Looking great. Wish I had the talent to paint an exterior of a car. I stick to the interior, bottom, trunk, and engine bay. My screw ups don't bother me much in those areas.

This is my first 2 stage paint job ever. I practiced my first single stage paint job ever a few months back on my 65 Dart. Sold now. Never painted a car before. It was a great learning experience for sure.

On man....the only way you can get away with wearing a full beard is to have a full mask and positive air pressure system and hardly anyone wants to do that because it's not exactly cheap. And the only painting I've done is a panel here and there starting with a dash restore in a pick up and it came out so dang nice that I wanted to do more. Anyways, safety is ALWAYS first especially when it comes to breathing and I learned a lot working in a refinery for over 20 years. And quit washing parts with chemicals bare handed too! Btw, nice looking job.....!

I mentioned in an earlier post that my second gallon of Y2 didn’t match. Of course I didn’t see this until it was sprayed down the side of the car. Well here is the difference. I’m bummed but at this point I’m not planning to fix it. Doesn’t Y2 translate to 2 shades of Yellow? Lol. Sorry I have to laugh or I’ll cry.

Looks great . But wow what a difference in color I would get that clear off and go get one more gal to spray entire car to get it looking the same !
As stated earlier best to blend paint to be 100%its the Same

I know it's too late now but whenever I buy 2 or more gallons first thing I do is mix them together. That way it will all be the same. Anyway it looks great! A couple of years ago I did a 68 Hemi Super Bee in sunfire yellow for a customer. Here's some pictures.
