Hello all,

My 68 Satellite's 3 speed automatic transmission has been slipping a bit lately. It's still drivable, but I don't want it to get any worse. Anyone know any good transmission shops in the greater Los Angeles are that can work on it for a decent price? There's a shop near me called Pinky's that's always got classics in their lot but I just wanted to know if anyone else knew of any good shops... Thanks!

Enzo

Here is how i see it: (But i'm not an expert on transmissions)

You probably cant do much about it without pulling the transmission.
If you did, it only makes sense to go for a full rebuild i would say. (Because its laber intensive to get it in & out)

I would probably replace the fluid and filter and see if it helps.
You can try some additive like "lucas transmission fix" or something like that.

There is a place in Hawaiian Gardens called Cres-o-matic which I have always been happy with and they weren't too expensive.

It has been quite a while since I used them last, about 20 years, for my Barracuda with a 904.

These guys look pretty honest and competent

First thing to do is to drop the pan and see what the fluid looks like, smells like (burned or not) and if there is any chunks in the pan. If it isn't really burned up and there isn't any big chunks in the pan, you might get away with just servicing the trans which means replacing the fluid and filter and tightening the bands (all things you can do yourself). That said, I suspect that it isn't something you really want to do or feel comfortable doing so that means finding a shop. You need to look for some old school guy, ideally one that is very familiar with Mopars although any trans shop should know what to do.

I'll be calling them in the morning, they look legit. Thanks for your help!

If it slips there is an issue. Dropping the pan or adding magic juice is a waste of time and money. Pull it and get it fixed right.

Also is will stretch all the rubber parts inside and make it worse.
