Any closet chevy guys ? Rare motor???

BTW, I'm on of those closet Chevy guys. But it's in my posts as my daily driver is a 69 El Camino.

I don't think it matters much about getting the numbers been a different site s info and smog heads and guys in here I'm confident it's nothing! When I pull pan off I'll know better but more then likely a truck motor that was warmed up at one point! I figured I'd check first before letting it go to a 14 year old!

After all this looking for numbers I now know why Chevy's are so dang slow! They got no idea what motor is what!!!!!

Well in the end I scored ether way after looking at the motor it's definitely rebuilt with very low miles on it ! The kid needed a motor badly for his camaro project I bought him. His budget was $0.00 I ruined his shoes when the superbee turned into the yellow submarine so I was gonna buy him new shoes for Christmas well he ended up with a motor instead I'll wrap it up on the eng stand ! You think he will guess what he got !

clean up the vin area and get those numbers because if its still got 302 innards/pistons/crank,
then its still worth something if the block vin is right.
plus,if its got 302 innards the kids not gonna like it on the street.

ps,did you do any scooby doo investigating?
as in extra parts in the scrap piles of said garage?
 
The garage was jamed packed with parts carbs trans tools ...... He had to move three tractors out before we could even get in . There was another big pre 1940's deer in the back and a 49 chevy couple shelf's full of carbs and parts (guy who owned it all collected 47-53 Chevy s ) he passed estate sale sold most of the cars the guy I dealt with bought the house and everything that was left .
I might go back and poke around he wants the stuff gone
 
Yes, the 350, 327 and 302 all had the same four inch bore. Put a 283 crank (3" stroke) into a 350 block and you get a 302.
GM 283's were from '57-'67, and therefore ALL small journal (mains) engines. GM 350's ran from '67 to '03 which were large journal engines, with the exception of the '67. A GM 327 which ran '62-'69 would have been both small journal AND large journal, with the changeover in '68. So, your comment is mostly incorrect, with the exception of the '67. Every small journal 4" bore block I have seen were 327's, but there had to be some for the L48 Camaro in '67. The ONLY way to tell is to look at the suffix of the engine stamping (large one) to ID what the engine exactly was and was originally installed in. A '67 & '68 should have a "MO" suffix, and the '69 will be "DZ".

This is hilarious, lot of Chevy guys out there I guess huh, truth is we all started somewhere it takes a while to achieve Mopar greatness, for me 53 years, my daily driver is a 64 Impala , but it's got a Dana 60 410 posi in it go figure

It is funny how many have Chevy's. But as you said we started somewhere (me It was a charger ) but I wanted to go fast and it was way to expensive for a 16 year old to get a 74 charger to go fast so I bought my buddy's 79 trans am with a 383 stroker he kicked my *** every race! I've had many Chevy's and I hate to admit it but there's not one mopar on property (except the new van I just bought) I have my 64 300k convertible but it stays at my dad's as I bought it for him.
But currently I have oldest to newest
38 cadillac
56 cadillac (flip)
67 lemans (brother in-laws)
79 camaro (bought for kid next door)
92 camaro (flip)

I guess there's 60% of a charger here

I feel so dirty !
Maybe that 69 charger will come my way soon
 
Mopars are my favorite, ive got six, three with flatheads, but i was born into a chevy family. My mom and dads first new car was a v8/glide 55 chevy delray, that my mom drove me to grade school in. Its still parked in my back yard. My folks also acquired a couple more 55 belair hdtps. Ive got them too.

Okay, I should have said 327 rather than 350. But as you say, it would have been correct for 1967. And the original 302 did use the 283 crank, the mid sized journal special tuffrided crank came out for 1968 (only the 400 used the large journal). So if you saw a 1967 302, you were looking at a small journal block.
 
DZ 302 cubic-inch engine is regarded as one of the most legendary small-blocks that Chevrolet ever made. They say 290 hp, but it was more like around 360 to 400 hp.

The 302 cubic-inch engine was developed for the first-generation Z/28 Camaro model years 1967 through 1969 only. A common misconception is that 1967 and 1968 302's were 4 bolt blocks, while actually the only engine to use 4 bolt main caps was the 1969 version. The block from a 327 engine, and a crankshaft from a 283 engine was used and ended up with 302.4 cubic inch. 4 inch bore and 3inch stroke. The large bore together with the short stroke allowed the engine to rev well into the 7,000 rpm range. The small-block’s design makes for higher horsepower and incredible reliability, many say it was not reliable only because many would beat it to well over 7500 all day long and then wonder what happened, try that with a big block. If you don’t see DZ or MO on the VIN stamp pad, it’s probably a standard 350, The "DZ" is only on 1969 Z/28 engine block, and a few '68s. Most 1967 and 1968 Z/28 blocks were stamped the with the "MO" code.
602 were built in 67, 7200 in 68 and 20302 in 69 and 3970010 would be a 69, 302 or 350 for the Corvette, Camaro, Chevy II, Chevelle and it was also used as a truck block. Probably not a 302, the odds are against you.
 
There were no Z28 emblems on the 67, but the package did include broad racing stripes on the hood and trunklid. Fact!!
 
It had no markings to indicate that it was a 302 or a Z28. The 67 was not advertised as having the option. You had to know how to order it.
 
While all my daily driver's were mopar, my son got me into GM because the 80's were the cars he could afford. He and I built a few G bodys, and nova's. All small block 383 strokers, 500 to 550 hp on gas. Those days are gone.

Besides the mopar, i have this too. No small block now but has held a few, I've owned it a long time. A 6.0 LS swap now. 11.90 car.

Absolutely beautiful!! Well done!! Those LS engines get with the program. A guy I know has a LS9 6.2L in a 69 Chevelle automatic. A lot of fun. Another guy I know has a LS9 in a 66 three pedal Chevelle, a daily driver. Black on black. It makes me crazy to watch him drive it everywhere, everyday. He doesn't care. He has other new daily driver cars, he just wants to drive the 66. It's scary fast!!

it was a 67 RS/z28 option'd org. car, not anymore
it was a fun car, did a lot of racing with it, street & track
it's next to my A/AA altered, 301cid Donovan sbc blown Enderle injected,
6 #'s per/cid, was in gas org., went to methanol 6.90/190+ to 8.90 car
got my org. comp-license in that car running 8's/140+ at 18 y/o late 1977
latter ran it regularly in S/E 7.90 class, Fremont, Sac, Sears Point 1980-81-ish
at the old house off Willow Pass rd.
