Can't answer that Mark but you have it wrong, 71-2 are the same and 73-4 are what Brett posted above. That is why I was questioning you. Your car must have 73-4 emblems is my guess.

Good job. Many put down a clone or tribute car, but most do not know what a real Road Runner is. The VIN does not tell you it is a RR unless you know the breakdown. RL, RH, RM, RP, and RS. The R in each stands for SATELLITE. So a RR is a SATELLITE. The L means low cost SATELLITE, the H means Hight Cost, SATELLITE SEBRING, the M means medium cost, ROADRUNNER, the P means Premium Cost, SATELLITE SEBRING PLUS, and the S means Special, GTX until 1972. The second digit simply designates the standard features that is on your SATELLITE. The bodies are the same. And my final small comment is that MOST Road Runners were PLAIN. Most had no stripes, spoilers, or fancy anything since people in my age group did not want fancy they wanted POWER. My pay in 1972 was $256.00 a month before taxes and we did not buy fancy options because of the cost.

Okay on my current 72 it was in primer when I bought and the emblems were in glove box and they were the later ones so who knows on that one.
Years ago I bought and parted out another 72 400 car that seemed to pretty original and it had the later emblems on it which I still have.
Also years ago I bought another 72 from a local guy after his son wreaked it then I sold it to a guy over in Utah. Can swear it had the later emblems on it too.
This is why I've always thought the 72's got the later emblems. Possibly a late in the year change?
Anywho guess my car has the correct emblem.
