I'm working on a car that was originally a manual steering car converted to power steering. My plan was to convert it back. All my previous cars were power steering. I have a spare manual box. Question is... Should I have this box rebuilt? And where do I sent it out? And is it worth sending out? Thanks in advance!

I like Firm Feel in Vancouver WA

Does it NEED to be rebuilt? Why do it just to do it?

If it was me I would just buy a new one for $300 from Rock Auto or PST and be done with it. Your choice of 16:1 or 24:1 ratio. I like 16:1 but then again I don't drive a desk for a living.

Any play in the box?? If not, pull the drain plug and set the box upside down in a tray in front of a heater. Warm her up, drain the best you can and refill with John Deere Corn Head Grease. Glass blast the case to bare aluminum, spray with Tremclad clear protectant paint and bolt her in the car.

If it needs to be rebuilt, I covered it in my restoration thread. Little over a 100 bucks for new bearings/gaskets and seals from Firm Feel.

I take back my own advise, as I just tried this with the box out of the Dart, I got 2 small drips out of it in 18 hours. On to plan B with a solvent swish and refill for me. This box has zero play in it so I'm not taking it apart...
